question about aftermarket parts and insurance

so some background first.
About a month ago the passenger side of my car was keyed from the fender garnish to the back past the door. Filed a report but didn't start the insurance process as it was nothing that affected the driving.
Last night got rear ended at an intersection and smashed up the bumper and trunk. so i'll have to start the insurance process for both claims since my trunk will no longer shut and my bumper is falling off.

so I planned on purchasing parts like maybe a seibion hood and a duck tail trunk to have painted when I had the scratches fixed.

My question is Can I have the trunk or bumper replaced with aftermarket parts by the insurance? Whether they pay for it or I pay the difference in cost or something, or would I have to purchase the parts on my own and just have them installed and painted as I originally planned?

I had my bodyshop order me new taillights (TOMS) when my OEM ones were smashed so it can be done.

I think it varies depending on your insurance...You might want to speak with your insurance adjuster and see what the process is.

Ya I'm going to talk with the insurance after I get out of my class later today. Just wanted an idea of what others have done.

I think if you know a shop, you can request to get the work done there. Then talk to the body shop manager and see if they can work with the insurance company with the details. The shop will eventually receive a check from the insurance company and then you can go from there and discuss with the shop what you want to do. Some shops are willing to work with you, although not all. I have a few friends who have done this and it has worked to their advantage.

Thanks I will try that. The insurance will most likely go through the same shop we have used for previous claims.

I have seen people done this before and the shop didn't have any problems as long as they get paid lol. So this might be a good option.

Insurance sucks, warranty also

You'll need to work this out with the shop doing to work. If you know of a friendly shop, go there. They will know if/how it can be done.

In the future you can have your mods covered depending on your insurance. It would just cost more. Farmers quoted me about $25-40 extra on custom "parts" up to $10k.
But not sure if they would they would pay for aftermarket parts to replace damaged ones. Like others said talk to the repair shop, they might help you out there.
