Got my Red GTS Opti-Coated

Hey guys!

Just got my red GTS Opti-coated this morning by Frank from Bright Shine Mobile Detailing (************************************) and I must say, it's an amazing difference from the dodgy detailing job on delivery!

When I just picked it up, I was extremely disappointed to see how shocking the delivery detail was. They pretty much just buffed the crap out of it and left swirls and leftover polish all over the places with white build up in the gaps. Regardless, I was going to get the car Opti-coated when I got it so I called around and Frank offered the best deal.

Frank gave the car a proper once over, fixing up all of the crap the dealer detailer did. What people don't know about the Opti-coat is that it's 90% preparation as the Opti-coat only takes around 30 minutes to apply but the prep is a good 2 hours or so. Even after the prep, the car looked 100x better than out of the dealer. After the opti-coat it just blew my mind at how nice and full the paint looked, even though the car is new. It really does make a big difference.

Anyways, I can't recommend the Opti-coat and Frank from Bright Shine enough. If you're planning on getting your car Opti-coated and you're in the Sydney area, definitely give Frank a call and tell them Stanley referred you. He'll sort you out.

And of course, the part you've all been waiting for, the photos!

Look super Ravine.
Just booked mine in!

FRSjeff 06-25-2012 01:45 AM

Wow! That looks absolutely beautiful!! I am going to look into this opti-coat stuff here in SoCal. I want my new Red FR-S to look like this. Btw.... I wish the U.S. was getting this fully loaded version Toyota GTS. Don't get me wrong, I'm still very grateful for the FR-S! Awesome pics of your awesome car; thanks for sharing. :)

Just had my Argento done by auto obsessed in Edmonton.. Highly highly recommended. What a product and what a job they did with the application. Details and photos in the next few days along with links to a summary they're putting on their web page..

I've gotten a few quote from places, and Platinum paint protection seems to be the best value for money. Paint correction and opti-coating for $495.

there are some things I have learned the hard way , at times the cheapest price is not the best option, i am just talking in general terms.

Thanks for the heads up mate, unfortunately won't get an 86 until earliest November or latest January (from what I've been told by a different dealer)...

Hopefully there are more special deals to come.

Canada is a bit far from Australia :) Found a list of approved opti-coat dealers for Australia.

I remember he said $450 or so in another thread - it was cheaper than Reflect Effect and unlike them these guys come to your place.

I know. But they are an authorised dealer, and some guys on the Audi forums have said good things. I don't get my car for 3 weeks, so I've got some time to make up my mind, any way :P

Maj3sty 06-25-2012 02:33 AM

That looks awesome, will be doing this when I get mine.

Toy86 06-25-2012 02:36 AM

Great Job Ravine, Knew you would not regret Frank from brightshine

Cheers for the information Gir

I'll be sure to check them out once I get my hands on the 86.

I had never considered this but I love the idea of having this done privately away from the dealer than paying twice as much for some fool that toyota hired to ruin the job!

DriftEightSix 06-25-2012 04:16 AM

I doubt it - group orders get discounts because suppliers save on sending out multiple products to one location. This is a mobile 'service' so I don't expect any discounts.

Still worth asking though.

I was researching about why WA cost nearly $1000 compared to Ravine $450.

from what I have read $450 would only be 1 layer of opti-coat. can you confirm Ravine how many coats you got.

whereas here in WA its priced at two layers only and you have the option to go three layers for more

I was always under the impression that Opti-coat was like a solvent which bonded to your clear coat. It needs to cure and settle which to do properly takes a few days. If you apply another coat straight away, it'll just dissolve the last one and be wasted.

But either way, that's my unprofessional opinion on the matter. I'm not sure how many coats it was but for $1000, it's a bit of a rip off for even 2 coats. Most of the money is in the preparation and the materials used to decontaminate and prep the paintwork before applying the opti-coat.

EDIT: Regardless, don't take my word for it. I'm not working for Bright Shine. Call them up and ask them for a quote and a confirmation!

Nardi330 06-25-2012 11:05 PM

so your car should be washed, clayed, check to see if any swirl and fix up accordlingly then apply opti coat?

Exactly.

Mine didn't get clayed because the paint was already pretty smooth but each car is different depending on condition.

However, I did have some issues on the bonnet and roof so I got it polished with a buffer.

I found the answer on GTI forums and a few GTI have got it done here. nothing but praise

Would you be happy to pay $500 more for the same application without a valid reason ? just because we live in the WA ?
