K4R Alternative?
 

I'm thinking of purchasing the K4R's in 17x8. Are their any other wheels for the price ($200) that are as light? What are the alternatives?

Not many wheels come in at the same price and weight as the Kosei wheels. 720form GTF1 is about the only one I can think of that meets the Kosei for weight and price. They are made and sold in Canada so you'll have to deal with shipping and duties which will probably make them a bit more but they use flow forming which is stronger than the low pressure casting used in Kosei's wheels.

Enkei RPF1 and 949 Racing 6UL are both available in 17x8 at under 17lbs for about ~$250 per wheel.

Options increase if you're willing to go above 17lbs but they're pretty much all available on Tireracks site. Click the check boxes for 8 inch width and the low weight and see all the options available.

I'm pretty sure the K4R has a flow-formed barrel just like the GTF1.

I can get you the 17x8 rpf1 for similar price, just shoot me a message with color.

I can't find any source for this other than Tirerack which just says the wheels are low pressure cast so that is what I'll assume unless someone can find a source that says otherwise.

Yeah, they're made in Montreal. I see plenty of autocross guys running them at regional events and no one has said anything bad about them. I personally don't like the style but that's just me. I just don't like the machined inner bits on the spokes and would have preferred a solid colour for the entire wheel.

Thanks for the info. It looks like the K4R's are the best option considering price and weight, unless I can figure out how to get the GTF1 in the USA. I'm not thrilled about the K4R's color on a DGM BRZ, the grey might look good on a white car. I may go for the 949's. They have some color options.

Have a Canadian drive a set down and swap. We get gtf1's uber cheap here and picking up a set of rims in the US and coming back across the border without a spare set will save some taxes... if they decide not to declare.

The design and look of the 720 form wheels really grew on me.
I recently got the GTF2 and have nothing bad to say about them. Also, they are really easy to maintain. They never seem to look dirty and when they do it's a breeze to clean them up and make them look new again.
