Coil overs or springs?
Hi guys.
I'm looking at getting some 18x9.5 +38 RPF1's for my brz. I know I'm going to have to lower it for it to not look silly. I don't know if I want to go for coil overs or new springs. Its just a daily car so if I can save money and just buy springs that'd be great. Could someone advise as to what the major difference will be and what effect spring will have? |
I think springs would be a perfect option for you. The price point is good while still keeping a nice performance increase if you go with the right springs. And you can upgrade to Bilstein or Koni dampers later if you want to. I was very happy with my RCE springs, great ride, great handling, and a great price.
*And yes, this was an absolutely shameless plug. :D |
For one, the price. Springs are the cheapest. $300 or for a good name brand
Coil overs start about $800+. If you'll never see a race track, and want near stock comfort I recommend the TRD or STI lowering springs. |
Just one word of advice...your car will drive much better with a wheel that's not quite so huge. :)

But it will be less bling! And will not look as wide as for that ferrari! And everyone crawling under car will immediately notice too narrow wheels, what a shame! :)
|
you also might need to run spacers so that the inside of your wheel/tire does not hit the spring perch if you do decide to go springs.
|
Why so wide wheel? Never understood this on this car. Maybe 18x8 but anything more gets in the way.

Listen in kids:
Down under we live in a nanny country and a nanny state (Victoria). The process of getting your full license is as follows. You apply for learners license at 16. On your learners for a year where you have to have a full license driver at all times and log 120 hours. If you pass your p's driving test you go on your red p's for a year. There are multiple restrictions such as no mobiles(hands free included), only allowed one passenger aged 16-22 (if I recall correctly) After a year on your red p's you go on to green p's for 3 years. During this time (same for red p's) you can't do any modification to the car to increase the power of the engine. This includes any form, such as a catback, but that's not too obvious. These red and green p's are just sticker you put on your car so other drives (police) know you're on your p's Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk EDIT: whilst I do like most the laws in place to save lives, there are some which are ridiculous and contradict other rules on place. |
How about buying car performance premoded by someone past green p's? :)
