DTC-70 vs .....
Has anyone compared this pad against others ? I am running 70 upfront and 60 in the rear. standard OEM rotors, and brake ducts. 2900lbs race weight, dedicated W2W FRS. Torque 700 fluid
The Carbotech XP20/24 see to have much high temp range, however I have no issues with the DTC 70/60 combination, but will need new pad for the season, so just wondering what else it out there. |
How's your pad wear? Why the stagger?

I was just talking to someone at the track this past weekend about this....here is the traditional route i see everyone take....
Hawk HP+ on the car as a street/track car...then they put DTC-60 or DTC-70 on the car because they get more serious and Hawk has the market penetration...and then they find Porterfield, Raybestos, Carbotech, etc and use those and realize the Hawk stuff is not even in the ballpark compared to how good the other stuff is. I sell and believe in the Hawk products as a great entry level option. Easy to get and priced well, once you get more serious though there are better pad options. i have traditionally run raybestos ST43's on my track cars with great success, currently have Ferrodo DS1.11 on my BRZ loving them I would recommend you call the manufacturers and talk to the tech people there. They are all smart...they all understand pads, applications, etc...use their direct knowledge. Everyone is going to have different experiences with pads...I have a friend that hates the ST43's that I really like but the ST42's work great for him...just different braking styles get the pads to work differently. Will be worth your time to talk directly to the sources though and worth you time to try a different compound. |
Agree, had good time with Hawk during track day time, but once stepped into racing, it doesn't work well for me after some laps.

I am running the AP Sprint kit and I am running the DTC-70 / DTC-60 combo as well. I have run EBC Yellow, Project Mu 999s, Carbone Lorainne's, etc... and I have found the Hawk's to be comparable. The 999s are definitely the smoothest, then the EBC Yellows. The CL's were the most on-off. Once the Hawks are warm, they are smooth and consistent. I may try the DTC-60 square and see if that helps to keep heat in them. Ultimately, the Hawks are almost free (about $50) for me with the NASA contingency and I cannot justify spending $300+ on a pair of pads. While the 999s are awesome, they are not twice as good as the Hawks and definitely not 6x better. Honestly, if you can find Pagid RS19 pads for our car, they would be better than any of these options.

The major problem for me with Hawk is brake fade, I'v used DTC70 on my s2000 with Wilwood and Stoptech ST40 setup, both have soft paddle issue after certain laps, I thought it might be fluid or something else at first place because Hawk claimed DTC70 as the their top product in competition line, so I changed fluid from Motul 660 to Endless and bleed again and again, never fixed. Then I tried same pads on my friend's Toyota Yaris race car with AP 5000+ calipers, and it happens all the time, that car weighs only 900kg. So at the end i figured it was really the pad, now I had Wilwood front and rear kit on my BRZ with Wilwood H compound, never have any issue so far.
