Rear end of brz

Hey guys,

Im not sure if i have a problem...probably do. I approached a parking lot going 2-3mph, I pull in(steering towards right at). 90 degree entry btw, i slowly steer so i can get the nose of the car into the parking lot, its a slight incline. middle of the incline, my car stopped moving forward, i thought my side skirt caught onto the pavement!.

I got out of the car..... and........something similar happened:

http://image.fourwheeler.com/f/87226...n-rti-ramp.gif

My car rear end has a gap of 1.5 fingers from fender to top of tire. When i saw my car.....It had like half a foot gap and all of the cars weight was on the opposite side of the car.... caved in.

I went back into car, put it in reverse, wouldnt budge. I put it in drive and i went forward without a problem and car made a bit of a skidding noise(split second).

Suspension seems fine, i push on the car with my body weight. It doesnt bounce up and down. Potholes/bad roads seem normal to me. Car isnt bouncy. I have been driving the car 8 hours a day since the incident(3 days ago) and it seems fine. I kindve feel the car caves in a lot when i approach these parking lots.

Similar to this kind of lot:

What went wrong?

ryoma 10-28-2015 09:15 PM

did you hit a curb or pot hole? did you check the floor?

or you might have hydraulics on your car and you don't know it

I hope i didnt break anything, i looked at the entrance of the parking lot and saw NO REASON why it would do that.
What if i started to drift my car and it did that..it would flip over lol
(not that i wont drift it lol)
im actually scared now

I will post pictures tomorrow of the wheel/suspension. Im looking at something which doesnt look right. Will take some tomorrow morning.

If I remember correctly, I took a turn @/within city speed limits on a 45 Degree turn which goes upwards to a very steeeeeeep hill. While I took this turn, my right rear wheel/end of car(right end) went in mid air and this is before the parking lot issue.

This turn felt all normal to me actually but the parking lot incident has me buzzing in fear in damage of my car

So you're saying you got one of your rear tires off the ground? If you did that, then you will have initially lost a lot of power since the Torsen Differential will act like an open diff once you get a wheel in the air (all the power will go to the wheel in the air, so you won't move.) Presumably then either the car settled a bit, or the diff and TCS kicked in which is what caused the screeching and eventual forward movement...?

Oh my, I forgot to say that in the parking lot, MY WHEEL was actually touching the ground, the body just rolled just like that in the picture of the jeep/suv but the wheel was in contact with the floor. Thats why im so scared!

You are ok man, I have a very similar entrance at my work place.

Been doing that for the past 2-3 months, car feels the same. No damage or other adverse issues whatsoever.

Go do donuts in an empty parking lot to make yourself feel better. :)

No big deal. When you lift up the car, the suspension has enough travel for the tire to droop several inches. All you did was compress one side and take all the weight off the other, and the difference in traction on the slack side was enough to lose power to the wheels.

See how big a gap there is when that rear wheel is just hanging there? It probably looked pretty dramatic with the other side squashed down, but it's unlikely that caused any damage. If you're really worried about it, put it up on stands and slide up under there to look around. Despite how good the suspension is, it's not that complicated, and if something is broken it should show itself.

Regarding what would happen "if i started to drift my car and it did that..it would flip over lol": No, it wouldn't do that. If the tires gripped, the low center of gravity would push the force against the tire laterally and not downward like in your ramp scenario. If the tires skid, like they would in a drift, there's even less lateral force, because you don't have grip pushing back.

And with regard to the silly little Renegade on the RTI ramp, that's not flex. THIS is flex:

If you're hitting weird cambered corners like that at speed where you think you're gonna bump the car and lift a wheel, be ready for quick hand movements. Uphill corners like that are fun, though, if you're ready for them.

what in the world is that thing in that picture doing watttttttttttt :eyebulge::eyebulge::eyebulge::eyebulge:

Alright the power thing is making sense now, yeah the uphill corners are good but the parking lot thing had me scratching my head as i was going 2-3mph into the parking lol

Yeah the computers will freak out and you'll hear weird noises (presumably from the ABS system trying to brake the spinning wheel) and the car will feel like it's stuttering if you're trying to go up a steep parking lot ramp and a wheel gets lifted. There's a particular lot around my town where that happens every time I pull in. I just get a tiny bit of speed (not too much-- you don't want to rip the front bumper off) as I'm starting up the ramp to make up for the momentary traction loss.

Sounds like you 3 wheeled a bit. Welcome to the lowered life.
