Speed Academy - Ontario1500
Speed Academy is doing a video series with their JR supercharged FR-S at the Ontario 1500 (7 days at different tracks, 1500 km of driving at night). These guys crack me up. Their driving's not half-bad either ;) They release a video everyday. I'll post them as they go up.
Seems like their JRSC setup is holding up well to daily time attack/track abuse. They're loving the chassis balance too with voltex GT wing and driveway labs 5" front splitter. Seems like a good combo. Their choice of Toyo R1R tires was a bit odd though. The (currently) second place red FR-S is NA and has no aero, but is on RE71R. They're currently first in the points standings, but mainly due to mechanical failure to an STI which was leading it. Those boys are legit! Both of them are damn good drivers (David is just ridiculous) and nice guys to boot. I got the chance to ogle their car during the last day of the event. That thing is a beast!
Their tire choice was dictated by a sponsorship from Toyo. Better tires definitely would have netted them a second or two, but they did damn well with what they had! The red FR-S is @Slick with @normancw as one of the co-drivers. Those boys know how to drive! They have a thread going about their time at the 1500 here. |
Pretty cool stuff. Toyo throws crazy contingency at Canadians, I'm sure that's the reasoning for the R1R's.

Day 5 video up.
That makes sense about the Toyo contingencies. Seemed like a weird tire choice given people seem to dislike them (other than in the wet), but money talks. :) |
Day 6 video up. The R1Rs actually pay off in the wet autocross lol.

i would rock a slick and an aggressive rain tire if you only get two sets like they do - thanks for posting I follow these guys really closely. Beared dude is pretty impressive driver and the other dude is a good mechanic. its a good team. I would be pissed to be stuck with just autocrossing.

Day 7 video up. Congrats to the Speed Academy guys for taking the overall win!
Also need to mention Slick Racing's second place finish in a NA, pump-gas FR-S. Their car was modestly track prep'd and they still somehow managed to pull out 2nd place. Nicely done. |

In Slick's thread I linked earlier there was someone who was vehemently denying that it was possible that they were doing so well. It is hilarious that even the owners of this car refuse to believe how capable it actually is! |
