Swapping out the Amber Bulbs for Chrome Ones.

Credit to Spacewilly for the idea!

I created this DIY guide to help others. This was a quick and easy mod, but it looks great!

First off you will need to get the bulbs, purchased them off of ebay. The compatible bulbs are 7440 or WY21W.

Materials needed:

(4) Chrome bulbs 7440 or WY21W
Small flathead screwdriver
Gloves (not neccessary but I didnt want oil on the new bulbs)

Here is a comparison picture between the stock and the new chrome bulb.

Now, I will start with the trunk. There is just one pop out plug on each side of the trunk, you can stick a flathead screwdrive under it and pop it out easily. Refer to this picture for the location, it's the same on both sides.

Once you get the plug out, gently pull the cover back and you should see the socket for the bulb. Twist it and you will be able to pull it out. You can see it under the white wireloom, closest to the trunk opening, it's the gray housing.

The bulbs simply pull out of the socket and then just push the new chrome bulbs in.

Now let's take a look at the front.

We'll start with the drivers side. These are a little more difficult to spot since you can really see them. If you lean forward and look down, you should be able to spot it. Removal is the same as the rears, just twist and pull out. Here is a picture for reference, it's the gray one. Picture is upside down.

Now over to the passenger side, same as the driver's side.

Ok, now for the results. Here are the before and afters.

Headlight Before:

Headlight After:

Tail light Before:

Tail light After:

This is my first DIY guide. I know it's an easy one, but I hope it helps!

Love to see a video of these guys on if possible.

Anyone try these yet?

Being white they should look nearly the same as the chrome ones. Depth is a bit more but it seems there is room.

Seems like they'd look a little strange when you're just looking at the light housing.

Here's a quick video of how the chrome bulbs light up. They still maintain the amber color.

How many people, other than us crazy's, will be scrutinizing my headlight assembly? :)

Plus being mostly white they shouldn't reflect too bad. I think I'll order a pair, if they look OK I'll get a second set.

Exactly, I know I will be scrutinizing my car far harder than any random person seeing it. But, purely personal preference and if you like it, go for it.

Might have to do this. Where'd you get them from?

Got them from eBay, cost just under $30 for two sets shipped.

Anyone thought about getting the red chrome lights instead of the amber chrome ones? For the back ones at least. The fronts would need the amber ones lol

Nah, I prefer to keep the turn signal a separate color from the brake/tail light. I think it makes it easier to see.
