Who's dome their front brakes?
 

Due for the fist brake job. Local APT store wants $106 for pads and $140 each for the rotors? The pads strike me as a bit spendy, but the rotors a bit too spendy.

This sound about right for Canadian prices? Anyone bought from Toyota? I tend to assume they are way out of line for most stuff and have not called them yet.

Also as far as prices go I'd advise you search around online and see how much brand new OEM pads are going for to see if the store is charing you a reasonable amount.

Dude are't TRD pads like $75 usd? I would get those haha! My buddy love them on his car

The rotors are about what the OEM ones from Toyota/Subaru cost. You can definitely get less expensive options.

Pad pricing will be all over the place depending on whether you get higher performance ones.

What do you want?

If you want the exact same thing as what you had when you first bought the car, stick with genuine OEM.

If you want similar performance but want to go cheaper, go OE aftermarket.

If you want to increased performance, start researching performance aftermarket pads.

Not a track car so no need for high performance parts.

In the past, I have been happy with the offerings from the parts houses and dealer prices have always been 50% more (Mazda cars until now).

Just called the dealer, EXACT same prices.

They're overcharging you for rotors, see if you can bring your own, pads seem alright, iirc the TRD pads are $75 USD for the fronts only, might be worth doing that over straight oem or no-name oem 'replacements'

Your rotors are done already within the first usage of pads?! Rotors are supposed to last about 3-4 brake pad length so I don't get why you would want to change them unless you are looking for something of higher performance or your current rotors have warped

Why rotors? Upgrade or did you shave/wear them down?

X<100 for rotors for cheap option. $50 or so. Slotted/drilled are $110-150 for entry. High end probably over $3k for al 4.

All 4 pads should be approx $100. Higher end, approx $200.

The local Subi dealer was a fair bit less than my Toyota dealer... front rotors were $99, and rears were $119 CDN$. For pads, I went with the TRD pads from Toyota, but can't find the Bill...IIRC, they were less than the OEM pads. I don't know about other's experiences, but after nearly 3 years/80,000kms on the first set of pads, my rotors were looking a little worn. Bear in mind that I drive through the winter in Southern Ontario, so my rotors see a LOT of salt spray.


Edit: The Subaru part # for the front rotors is 26300SA001. They list 2 different Rotors for the front, and without a VIN#(which you can't give them because you have a Scion), they won't know which ones you need. This is the correct rotor for your FR-S.
They also list 2 for the rear...the correct one is #26700AJ010.


OK...found the bill for the pads $107 CDN from my local Toyota dealer. Front # PTR09-18130, and rear # PTR09-18131. Both the same price.

If you know how to measure the rotor thickness do that. These rotors are pretty thick and should only need to be minimally cut down or just a finish cut. Removing the rotors is not difficult and NAPA or a trusted mechanic should be able to cut them down. If it's going to be a DD just buy OEM pads.

I replaced mine because I could & they had done less than 2K kms :)
