No. I'm serious. I thought the FA20 was a high revving animal like the old 4age. I redlined that thing every chance I could. Then I needed a head gasket. Other than that, it ran awesome and compression ratio was good until car got stolen.

Anyway, whyd the FA20 blow?

johan 10-21-2015 09:03 PM

Sounded like it was going to blow about 30 seconds before it did. He could have saved it.

johan 10-21-2015 09:05 PM

It says "driver error" led to engine blowing. A few seconds before it gets funny sounding, I think he overrevs it. Probably broke something in the valve train.

Packofcrows 10-21-2015 09:18 PM

oh I hear it now. Sounds like a nail scratching a chalkboard. Literally.

Mr.ac 10-21-2015 09:25 PM

Looking at the windshield looked like it blew a coolant line or something.

It looked like that the first time it pitted, half way through the video.

Give the engine another generation and it'll be unstoppable!

i recall reading the FA20 could hit 9300 RPM but that was long time ago before the car was available to the public .. im guessing they took out a lot of the components for something cheaper and for the sake of reliability we have the redline at 7400
its interesting to hear all the rattle once his engine shuts off

hopefully we get a follow up on whatever happened

RandomDeception 10-22-2015 03:07 AM

I watched all of it, but what I was thinking to myself the entire time was why a Scion FR-S was shipped to Taiwan to be used as a track car.

Over-revving? I guess he pulled a Takumi.

"What? 9000?! There's no way that can be right!"

dvasqu01 10-22-2015 09:15 PM

I don't think he was over-revving through most of the video. You can't even see past 5kish; sure the shift light was flashing, but you want to stay between 5k-7k while you're on the track.

Most likely he was downshifting and it blipped higher than redline causing something to go.

If it ain't a type-r then it ain't a tight car

Sargy 10-23-2015 07:13 AM

To me I see a huge weight reduction and at least a 5.0 final drive. Love the way it picks up.

That's what the Ace header does to the car...

King Tut 11-10-2015 04:54 PM

GT86 don't want it with my Honda Vtecs.

I wish this thread were a technical breakdown of the design differences between AVCS and VTEC, because this thread title hurts me.

Sorry but ITT you'll find a Honda fanboi circlejerk most likely due to the fact that Honda hasn't made anything new and interesting to drive for the U.S. in nearly a decade.
