Australia 86/BRZ weight comparison
After researching and studying these cars in each of their countries for months on end, I have just realised how different they are in each region.
http://i45.tinypic.com/wtzryb.gif Attached image is pretty obvious, but my main point of interest is the difference between Australia and the other markets. How can our car be so much heavier then the rest? All the measurements are the manual version and kerb weights. I have thought about it and cannot come up with and answer, lets hope you guys can do better. |
where's all the extra weight coming from???
Edit... thats what your asking... well i wonder too |
Full size spare? But that would only be a few kg...
|
Oh wow! Got me stumped!!
Uk and Oz is pretty similar.. Perhaps safety features? Floor mats? Spare? Sound deadening(that's fkn heavy)? Different refrigerant? Emmisions equipment? Well I'm just stabbing in the dark here lol |
lol I think it's the seat warmers :D
I should see if i can find a space saver wheel to cut down cost.:D |
Japan has no spare. We have full size that's like 20kg??
Japan also doesn't have head unit standard that's around 5kg on GTS??!! |
Yeah that sounds about aright...
:D will weight it on Tuesday night for you all. |
Good post. I had the exact same question as well when i checked the weights off all the official sites.
|
full size spare is the biggest chunk of weight. you could pretty much get a GTS around 1200kg for the track by just removing the tools and spare and fitting some ligther wheels.
|
Nice little graph you've made. As ppl have said the biggest contributor to weight will prob b the full size spare the aussies have. The GT has one made of steel which would b even heavier? but apart from that I cant think of anything else that would really be that different between the countries.

On Kerb Weight from Wikipedia:
"This definition may differ from definitions used by governmental regulatory agencies or other organizations. For example, many European Union manufacturers include the weight of a 75 kilogram driver to follow European Directive 95/48/EC. Additionally, organizations may define curb weight with fixed levels of fuel and other variables to equalize the value for the comparison of different vehicles." |
so our curb weight could include us?
|
Still doesnt explain why the subaru brz limited in the states is 1259 kg and the aus gts is 1275kg when both have the same options (heated seats, sat nav etc)
|
Us spec has space saver and not full size spare.
