How cold is too cold for E85?
I have an OFT and was running Stage 2 UEL E85 tune a while back. However, when the temps starting dipping into the 50's I started getting some cold start issues. I'd have to crank it a couple of times and once it acted really weird on warmup with the throttle going all over the place. That kind of freaked me out, so I switched back to 93. The extra power from E85 was really nice, but I'm worried to keep running it now. What do you guys do when it starts to get cold?

Looks like there's a tune tweak to get it to fire while pretty cold (21F). http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...1&postcount=40 Or you can switch to 93 for the winter. A lot of folks I know do. |

If your arround E70 you will be pretty good down to about 40-50F. if you mod the crank tables as per wayno post then you will be good even in cold temps on E70 |
I made some mods to my startup tables and could get it going in 40F with one or two turns of the key. That was with Propel e85, which seemed to be actual e85. With a gallon or two of 91, you should have little trouble with the OFT tune.

I was able to start the car at -10 C last year without much cranking with the OTS tunes. but Waynos table are the way to go

And you should most definitely DO NOT directly use that bin. Those are example files, and have a wide range of changes that you may or may not need. And they're for an Australian automatic transmission car. |
I've had no problems cranking at 40F using Wayno's tables. Not sure if I'll want to risk it when things get below freezing.

E85 start easily above 5C
E100 start easily above 15C |
I had a noticeable pop this morning when starting with E85 right at 40*. This will be the last tank I run until it warms up again. The loud pop really worries me as it sounds like detonation (note it only did once when starting up). This is the coldest day of the week for us, as the rest will be in the 60-70 range, so I'll run it out and put 93 in for the winter.
