Got my windows tinted and there is a large gap. Is this normal?

I got my windows professionally tinted yesterday and at first glance I thought they looked great and drove off the lot a happy man. But when I got home and took a closer looked I realized there were large gaps between where the window ends and where the tint ends.

I contacted the shop today and this is what they told me:

Some vehicles have a gasket that gets in the way there of the window operation. I had our best installer on it and I know he always gives as much coverage as possible. If you want to swing it by tho and discuss in person let me know
Is this a known issue with the twins? Or should I demand a refund. Can I even demand a refund? I feel like they're just going to tell me tough luck. This is my first time doing something like this so I don't know my "rights".

There are some cases where you'll leave a little spacing, but this seems like too much IMO

They were probably trying to stretch a roll of tint just a bit farther and make it work

Ummmm.. Yeah that don't look right, it should be right up to the edge, with these windows. There sould be a slight gap or no gap between the tint edge and the window edge.

For what it's worth the gap is the exact same size on both sides. It seems intentional.

I say go back and get it redone. My tint goes all the way to almost the edge on both the side and top. Had my tints for almost 2.5 years, no issues what so ever.

I'll take a picture of my dealership tint when I get out of work and get home if I remember. It goes all the way over and there's tiny edging. Had the car for 2, almost 3 years now and no problems.

definitely not normal. my tint goes all the way to the edge as well. there's no gap at all.

If they refuse to fix it/refund me what are my options? Can I call my bank and tell them to reverse the charges?

Doubt you'll be able to get a full refund. If anything, you might get the material cost refunded? Probably not labor because what's done is done, which is fair I would think.

If you want a FULL refund and you paid by check, if they haven't cashed it yet, you might be able to stop check for like $20. If by CC, you might be able to get the full refund if you open a merchants dispute.

If you got it done at a reputable shop, they should fix it for you. However, try to be respectful and not beligerant when you point it out

That is a half-assed job. My windows are tinted all the way up without any gap.

Vesalera 10-16-2015 07:51 PM

Being a tinter myself, I'd say that is a wacky job. The tint should sit flush, you should of received an invoice with life time warranty on any issues. Go back and get it redone if you are unsatisfied.

Mr.ac 10-16-2015 09:12 PM

Yeah, I would take it back and have it redone.
Looks to me like they had the new guy work on it.

brzzy 10-16-2015 09:16 PM

Yeah no that's brutal. Mines totally flush/tucked.

I'd get your money back.

I've never seen a tint job like that before and I've had all of my cars over the last few years tinted.
