The headlights....
 

The headlights on this car make me feel a bit nervous driving at night on the highway. They just don't seem bright enough nor do they have a good forward range. The brights are ok, but obviously you can't drive with them on all the time. I kept thinking last night if there was something on the road, I wouldn't see it until it's too late. Maybe I just feel more 'vulnerable' in a smaller car?

It's just that my Jeep's headlights SUCKED before I replaced them and any time I had that nervous feeling I knew I needed to back off the skinny pedal just a little.

Really? I'm surprised, I was thinking quite the opposite. I drove at night and thought to myself, " I guess don't need the HIDs after all"!

I don't find the headlight output to be too bad but I do miss the output from my Lexus IS... My TRS bi-xenon upgrades should be here early next week, I'm sure they will help!

I was driving at night in the rain in a more rural area and the light output wasn't enough for me. So I've been eyeballing the TRS kit as well looks stock really however I don't hear that many great things about aftermarket HID bulb life.

The TRS deal of 25% off is a killer price tho

Which kit did you buy? I may be interested in doing this as well.

Just driving the speed limit at 110KPH. I've never had a 'nervous' feeling before in any vehicle I have driven at night on the highway, just with the FR-S. It felt like driving with dirty headlights, except they aren't dirty.

WTH 300 bucks for HIDS? Rather just buy them and install it myself, save like $200.

What you don't understand is for 300$ you get a full motorized projector with high/low beams... Just buy two low quality ebay kit, zip-tie the fat ballast (4) anywhere in your engine bay and enjoy the look of it everytime you pop your hood...

Don't just put HIDs in halogen optics. It will put more light where you don't want it, and less where you do. You need to replace the optics as well.

Sounds like a good analogy would be buying a high quality HD projector for a home theater system and then pointing it at your wall instead of also investing in a quality HD projection screen.

no that dosent make sense since you would be able to use the projector 100% without any problems. From what brett is saying I would be driving blind if I would to just swap HID's in.

Something like that. The light emitting surface in each type of bulb has a different shape, so you need to focus is differently to put the light where it needs to go.

All joking aside, has anyone upgraded to SiverStar Bulbs? It made a big difference on my old Honda Fit.

The lame output was obvious to me when i saw the car in Arcadia a few months ago. It was clearly inferior to the projectors in my Camry. It doesn't help that the car is so low.

No offense but the SilverStars are way outdated. There are much better options out there now. There's a whole new class of +90 bulbs like the Philips X-treme Power, Osram Night Breaker, GE Nighthawk Platinum, or PIAA Night-Tech.

But nothing comes close to HID's. One of my requirements for a new car was HID's. I'm holding off until Scion either starts including them or there is an affordable way to swap the headlamps out with the 86.

I'm running SilverStar Ultras. There was a noticeable difference from stock. I'm still swapping projectors though because the optics on the stock ones are garbage.

you're not buying just bulbs and ballast here for $100

you're buying the whole b-xenon projectors

FR-S lights are not nearly as good as the HIDs on my GTI.
