Need help with wheels and tires

Hey all,
Would it be worth it to get wider 17x9 wheels in order to get more grip or would Pilot SS tires be sufficient on the stock wheels for better grip? A little worried about this car in the rain.
Thanks

Personally the pilot SS are a shity tire. You can get way better tires for the same price.
As far as going wider, your still need to get good tires. Cheap wide tires do jack for grip.
If all you want is grip look for a tire with a low utqg rating under 200.

If your worried about the rain drive slower. Tires help a little but they don't cure hydroplane

Hold your horses. Pilot Super Sports are good street tires, and will be better than the stock Primacys. If you'd like to make more cost-effective solutions, I'm all ears, and I'm not saying there aren't more cost-effective solutions, but for the treadwear warranty, the Pilot Super Sports are a good value. Michelins have excellent warranties, even if they cost a little bit more. It's nice to know that if I run the tires bald before 30K miles, I can get another set of tires pro-rated.

If OP wants more grip in the rain, and more grip overall, the Pilot Super Sports are fine, even at stock width.

I respectfully disagree that Pilot SS are a shitty tire. They are a fantastic all around tire. And if you're looking for better grip in the rain, do not get anything with a rating under 200. As stated, that would be good for dry weather grip, but not for anything wet.

In the rain the tcs works great if you keep your foot out of it a little.

If you like the stock wheels, keep them. I hated them, so they had to go. 17x7 is narrow. 8" width is good. 9" is good too. I have 8 front 9 rear. Though I had square wheels (17's) for the first three years I owned the car.

MPSS FTW! I have MPSS 245/40 17s and 245/35/18s.

Shitty tires = Ling Long, Sunny, etc. If you don't like them, that is cool. They are costly, and don't make sense for some types of driving.

I had Pilot Sport A/S + also. Great tire in the rain. I have not tried the A/S3 yet, but have heard great things. Also, they are slightly cheaper. It is basically in a class of its own "high performance All Season"

ALL choices are compromises.

For an all season tire they would do. Hell any all season would do.
When I hear grip I automatically think of autox and track days. I keep forgetting kids these days want something that grips well going up freeway on ramps.

Lately I been noticing a trend on all pilot SS owners. . Since Michelin is the OEM brand, from what I seen most owners ask their dealer or tire guy what other OEM tire would be better. Their eyes turn into dollars signs and they all say the pilot SS.

And oddly to your disbelief tires with a 200 do great in the rain. I tried a few, star specs, potenzas re 050, azenis, and rs3s. So far the rs3 worked the best. The azenis scared me a few times.

So I guess it depends what the op wants and how much he wants to spend.
