It's been a while since we've seen a test car for the new Toyota/Subaru coupe, but a new mule has just surfaced here in the United States and for the first time ever – we can confirm its hatchback configuration!

Look for the Subaru version of the FT-86 to debut at the Geneva Motor Show early next month!

What I see is dual exit exhaust.

DantKR 02-16-2011 04:44 PM

Is that dual exhaust or just dual pipes? Or is it just the same thing?

I believe that what we see is single exhaust with 2 exits.

Perhaps that's how they'll separate the Subaru and Toyota models. Subaru gets hatch and Toyota gets saloon. It could be the most distinguishing features outside the front end branding (headlights, grill, badge etc)

This is great news.

I'm curious to why it still looks so much like the old monster mule made of old impreza and legacy parts.
Being so close to production, don't manufacturers usually move onto a closer-to-production test car?

Maybe they knew what it was going to look like for all this time. Or, more likely, they're still just testing components.

1: I really hope its a hatch
2: This doesn't look like a hatch at all
3: This is still a mule..so its probably not even close to what its going to be

That would suck is Subbie got the hatch and Toyota got the coupe...

I want a toyota hatch, QQ

NESW20 02-16-2011 06:13 PM

that's a trunk, not a hatch.

djohnson 02-16-2011 06:27 PM

Sooooooo.... a Subaru mule in the states... indication that regardless of whether the states get Toyota or Scion, the Suby will be available stateside? one can only hope :happyanim:

Yup, we all want it. The hatch looks more practical too.
