How long between the last time you topped it off and the sound started?

I only had one oil change so far and it was done by Toyota about two months ago. I noticed the sound yesterday the day I made this thread.

Ok. That rules out overfill. I was trying to think of a reason oil pressure might be coming and going. I have this theory about air bubbles in the VVT mechanism...

Back to the drawing board...

Yea lol let's see what they say tomorrow or any excuses they might bring up..
The dealers might over fill it also. They told me this is the first frs that they serviced

Trying to predict what the dealer may be thinking. You have a 2013 and only had one oil change since 2013 since you only have 5,000 miles?? I know the manual states 7,500 miles or 7.5 months, which ever comes first. Hope the dealer does not try to use this against you.

I only owned the car for 10 months. I got the last one on the lot for a discount.

You should be fine then. How many miles on it when you got it?

My dad's friend (mechanic) stopped by right now and took a look at it. He said it's the pulley of the car . Since it was shaking left and right. I really doubt that could cause the noise

That's normal if it's the tensioner pulley.

imo your first video sounds weird but I wouldn't freak out, especially if it's intermittent, in the second video the noise doesn't last long enough but again doesn't worry me.

Thanks for the info! I thought the same thing.

I took the car to the dealer and they straight up said it's a normal thing for this cars to do that because of the high pressure mechanical fuel pump .
Also I think it's bad gas because my dad filled his brand new Honda Accord to the same place as me and his CEL came on. The honda dealers confirmed it and said it was the gas. I just filled up the remaining half of tank at a different place and going to see if the noise comes back

critical ear

So Ive had similar noises on my 2014 and been to the dealership and heard all these similar things on this forum and at the dealership. Folks on the forum say "that noise is not right", Dealership techs say "Its normal". I would agree with the forum members since the sound is no where near what I would say sounds like a modern new low mileage engine of any level. However I also know that sometimes owners hear things that the average knowledgeable tech rightfully doesnt bat an eyelash at. I have an especially critical ear and think that might play into it. But on another opposing point I also took the car in for both the fuel pump crickets and the window seal/squeak issue. Both which now sound like are back just weeks after being in the shop. I also know that the brand new cars dont sound like this on the lot.

IM COMFOOSED!!!!

Im almost at the point where Im going to take the advice of a wise old machinist I used to work with and get a louder stereo each time I hear a new noise until I don't hear noises anymore. I mean once I put on the exhaust I plan to put on I kind of doubt Ill be able to hear the engine compartment noise anyway and the car still performs well.

I realize this is a brand new engine but do the WRX and other boxer subbies have a similar loud topend sound as well? I heard someone say that ths subbie boxers were just loud mechanically. Could we all just be a bit too critical?

These are noisy ass engines. The very setup is so different that you can't expect them to sound like inline or Vs. I will never, ever get used to the injector noise. If one of my old V8s made those noises it meant it was going to blow at any minute.
My rule of thumb with noises is "Does it still run and function properly?". If the answer is yes then I don't worry until the noise gets worse or it stops running.

It sounds like sloppy lifters in a slant 6! lol :confused0068:

It's so unique and primitive at the same time. I figure at some point I'll learn to trust it and get a real ear for it. Only 2k so far...

It's just "different"

Forget who it was but somebody here said they sound like an "old Russian farm tractor".
