Exhaust too loud need another alternative

Hi all,

Over the course of modding my car Aus 2013 BRZ

I installed Namelss headers and KLS overpipe rest of the system stock with ECUTEK.

Result bit more power and a tad louder making 169HP

To maximize this I decided to go all out and get an SME front pipe and a Greddy Evo 3 exhaust.

After changing the front and cat back. Driving the car after install the car was pretty loud. I got home and put the Silencers in and well its better but we all know Silencers restrict back pressure and its still a tad loud for me.

So after researching on here and other pages it seems that Invida Q300 may be my solution to just lower the noise to a more stock level again.

Anybody have a similar setup and can offer some advice cheers

I went with the HKS quiet front pipe and Perrin resonated cbe. Makes a nice sound, though it is still considerably louder than stock.

Why not just put the stock catback back on.?

catcha 10-10-2015 11:19 AM

Because stock is still restrictive in terms of chasing every HP from N/a

Doubt the stock cbe is any more restrictive than the q300

No evidence of this.

you can also wait and hope that this cat back developed by CSG / ACE is going to get produced:

Yeah I think stock is just fine for NA. Just get the Perrin 4" tips for the stock exhaust OR if you need more sound lol... get the Q300
Im running stock CBE with a UEL header and E85 and was getting 205whp

I suggest you take advantage of the wealth of knowledge on this site re: exhaust dynamics.

Modern engines like ours do not use backpressure in the exhaust system for power or anything else. It's a question of exhaust capacity and flow rate. A silencer probably does affect exhaust dynamics, but most likely to a negligible extent.

For the record, the stock catback is pretty good and there are plenty of people running catless headers/fp/op with stock catback - cross-flow mufflers are quiet.

Stock catback is not restrictive, last dyno day guy with stock catback made most power.

stock catback will be quiter than Q300

put the stock one back on if it too quiet and you dont like the sound then try the q300

catcha 10-10-2015 10:20 PM

Thanks all yes, my assumption is yes stock would be more restrictive. or maybe it was a weight saving thing. either way its a tad too loud for me even with sliencers.

Some good advice and will put the stock one back on and then consider the Q300

Your tune affects your noise as well. Have you been re-tuned since you upgraded your exhaust? You might get more power, and a quieter exhaust.

Unfortunately that's a $400 retune gamble i'm not willing to take. Another member had similar setup but with tomei 60s even after retune it was still loud.

The headers would do it. Go FI, that should make it quieter and get rid of the crappy raspy sound that NA gives you.
