No boxer pistons on the logo, maybe that's so they can bring out the inline 4 or 6 version. Maybe I WILL get one now.

Likely going to See a Europe Toyota, Scion US thing happening here. It saves them cost but pisses us off.

Could be the name for their car:

Subaru 2000 RS

can't find anything about it @ google
publication date is november 2010.
anyone ever heard about it?

Maybe their testing car? We have seen the Subaru testing car running in the Nur several time.

I could see this as a side logo on the car, like the "5.0" on the new 5.0L Mustangs.

I'd prefer it had a real name rather than any alpha numeric bullshit, but at this point I'd be happy as long as it stayed a Toyota rather than a Scion.

What does the hell it saves in cost exactly?

I thought latest report was that is would be badged "FT-S" and under the Scion brand in the US.

... seriously? did you really miss the point of why this will be a boxer??
cccc
on a positive note, this could eliminate the scion vs toyota debate.. if all of them have the 86 badge only, and no toyota or scion hehe

They should use this badge instead of Toyota badge. It reminds me of Altezza if they do so.

To all:

Would you still buy a scion if it had that 86 logo on it instead of scion logo? (talking about the ft 86)

Dimman 02-15-2011 09:45 PM

I've said this before, I think the 86 logo is a bit tacky and won't age well.

On a side note, I'm curious what the actual chassis code will be. They go all retro with the 86, but what if people start calling it by its Subaru or Toyota chassis code which is totally different?

And if they actually incorporate 86 into its chassis code it will feel super-contrived...

No. It increases costs. How can selling two different vehicles, marketing campaigns for two different targets, through two different dealer networks, save money?

It saved Toyota and Subaru (two mostly separate companies) development costs, but having Toyota split marketing, sales and delivery doesn't save money.

highly doubt they will use AE because it's completely unrelated to the corolla now.

If the new IS is gonna be based off the same platform, then XE33?

Well the A is for the A-series motor which is long gone. So it may start with FB, unless things get complicated and Toyota gives the boxer a different code to match their nomenclature.

And Subarus typically use two letters (I don't know what the numbers are for in Subarus). I know GC is first gen Impreza coupe. But I don't know what the 8 in GC8 is for.

Will be interesting to find out how this turns out, but I'm betting neither will have '86' in it... So will it really be an 86?

Chokonen888 02-15-2011 11:46 PM

I still hope they go with "Sprinter" or "Celica" for the name. Gives it more feeling. Not a fan of the whole number/letter naming. They can do what they want with the chassis code but I'd guess they'll still go with something like "F[]-86"

I don't care what they call it. Just sell me one.
