The idea is still alive within Toyota but expect the car to sell in the same realm/market as the Honda S660 if it ever gets approved.

sad thing is, the S660 would do pretty well over here, a the MX-5 (It's still Miata Mazda, you ain't foolin' me!) is proof of that.

That same thing goes for Toyota making a 2-door 4X4 akin to the original FJ40 if they made one and priced it comparable to a Jeep Wrangler, Toyota would crush the market

But you forget it's a 0.66L engine.

That ain't gonna fly with Americans, regardless of how much boost you slap on it.

Edit: JDM Miata has 1.6L or 2.0L.
US has 2.0L. Unless Honda wants to slap on a larger engine, 0.66L (or even a 1.3L turbo) is pretty sad for US consumers.

Sounds like everyone who ever was interested in the SFR.

There were rumors Honda was thinking about importing a version of the S660. Even if they put the crappiest Civic engine in it there should be lots of entertainment to be had. I'd rather Toyota make a modern MR2 AW11. The Yaris platform is screaming for it.

Only 6500rpm redline no thanks!

The S660 already lost 1000rpm when compare to the Beat.

6500redline in a sub20k 1900 pound rwd mid-engine Honda? I think I'll manage.

The 660 is a Kei car, isn't it? I thought the SF-R has a 1+ liter 4 cyl motor..? Weren't they throwing power numbers around in the 125 range? That's not Kei territory..

Yup. The general public complains about the twins being underpowered. Plus an engine like that MT is the only option to have some acceleration unless you through a super short final drive in with an AT.

We are talking niche of the niche market in North America. As much as I would love one for a fun toy I don't think it would ever happen here.

Yes, but I was replying to the guy who suggested that the S660 would do well in the US.

The S-FR was displayed prominently at Toyota MegaWeb when I went to Tokyo for the Tokyo Motor show a few months ago (October. )
According to the display, they still announce it as a "future production vehicle" not a concept.

I just don't get the whole big mouth grill thing that seems to be all the rage now. Makes the cars look like the automotive equivalent of a blow-up doll.

I imagine it's a cost savings thing. A big black plastic maw is cheaper than a smaller grille requiring more steel/aluminum material to make up the balance. Although the entire front bumper is plastic now... Save some pennies on paint?

the car looks production ready. also it took Toyota 4 years + for the new "Supra", so i wouldnt worry to much about the timing / lack of news of this car.
