Paint stress fractures??
Hey guys, I've got some stress fractures on the front of my car that (I assume) happened from someone backing out of their driveway slightly into my car. With winter coming up what should I do to prevent more cracking/rusting? I'm going to get it fixed/detailed in the spring.

When you say front, do you mean the bumper? Someone hit me and the same spiderweb is there, only when you get the right angle to see it. It's because the plastic can flex more than the paint, even with the flex additive.
On that note, winter isn't going to do much. It can't rust. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using Tapatalk |
Pictures would help.
If it's just scratching and paint transfer from another car, you could probably buff it out. If it's through the clear and cracked the paint, it's probably going to require a re-spray. There's a pretty wide gamut of possibilities. If it's just on your bumper, you don't have to worry about rust. It's plastic. The fenders are another story. |

Wow! that paint is F'd up....if someone hit your car why didn't you put a claim in with your insurance? If it was me I wouldn't wait till next spring.....just saying.....get it fixed soon.

Yeah, I'd put in an insurance claim and get it re-sprayed.

It won't "rub out" nor can a PDR dude do it any good. So the hood is cracked also..?? You don't have any big ol boyfriends that sit on it .... do you .... ?? Anyways, if you can't get it fixed this fall, stress cracks aren't going anywhere during the winter. The front bumper is plastic and the hood is aluminum, so they won't rust. You might try some store bought "scratch remover" which may it look a bit better until you get it fixed proper. humfrz |

I have pretty much the same spider web in the same place. It's under the clear vinyl, but weird it looks exactly like mine. People suck :(

It could either look way cool or way awful. It's not gonna be anywhere between.

The cracks will only get bigger. You'll have to repaint or replace the whole front bumper if you see bumps starting to appear. This happened on my whiteout when some idiot hit a shopping cart into my car. Best bet is to wax it and give it a nice good layer. Depending on how bad your winter is, this could get alot Worse. So prepare your pockets!

I have small ones in same place but much lighter. Wax seems to have made them less visible, so I ignore 'em. I'd rather buy another bumper from a fellow member here than do insurance claim. IMO not worth it but if there's no way you can get another bumper, then by all means put a claim!
