Longest Month of my Life

I still can't believe it, but I have finally put down some money and ordered a 2016 Hot Lava with the TRD exhaust and factory armrest. Should be arriving within a month, take or leave a week. :happyanim:

This car has been in the forefront of my mind for the better part of 3 years now. Let me tell you, I have driven the new Mustang Ecoboost, Focus ST, and the Genysis, but they just did not compare with the FR-S. I can't really explain it, but the moment I sat in this car I knew it was something special! Thanks to this active forum community, my admiration (and knowledge of this cars many pros and a handful of cons) has expanded tremendously. Just can't wait to start driving and getting my hands dirty! Keep on rockin enthusiasts....

I waited about 1 full year before I couldn't wait any longer and pulled the trigger I can only marvel at how you made it 3... There were so many days where I'd wake up and debate whether I should forget price and practicality (for me at the time) and just splurge... Ultimately I think I used up all my self-control during that period because now I find myself volunteering to help others out just for the sake of driving (You need a ride? Sure I'll drive the 50 miles that are completely out of my way to help you!)

I had read a little about them back in 2012 and then immediately forgot they existed.
Walked into a dealer to look at a tC spotted mine in the showroom and said "What is that? I'll take it" (then went home and researched like crazy).
So my anticipation lasted about 8 minutes.

Oh and Dave, it will be nice to drive through Shelby Township and see something that isn't a Camaro or Challenger for a change. I spend a lot of time up that way and will watch for you.

Go Team Lava!

Hot-Lava_Dave 10-05-2015 01:22 PM

But anticipation is half the fun! I agree with the "I see nothing but camaros/challengers/mustangs", although I did spot an RS 1.0 the other week going down Van Dyke. Funny, everyone I know wanted me to buy a mustang, but I'm not a fan of the whole come race me bro stereotype...... Not to mention with the extra power I would need to budget in monthly speeding tickets, those cars WANT to go fast.

Nice, congratulations :)

My FR-S was the first 2014 coming into the dealership - they still had time to specify the color, trans, etc on it. I think I waited about 5 - 6 weeks.

A good way to pass the time, especially if you are particular about your car, is researching shops, products, and building your network of who who and what will be necessary for maintaining your car.

My FR-S was my first new car - prior to then I never owned my own vehicle, so things like maintenance, etc didn't mean much to me. When I got my FR-S, I think I had a harder time trying to research, and figure out which products were safe to use than I would choosing the products for my own (hypothetical) infant - lol.

But in seriousness - there's a wealth of information available, and a lot of bad products that will tell you they'll do something they won't, will do badly, or will do so while damaging your paint, etc in other areas.

So - you might want to take this time to get together the products you intend to use for washing, and finding a person you trust to do work on your car if you intend to get it detailed, or bring it to someone for installing aftermarket parts.

Best of luck, and enjoy the ride!

Thanks! I actually used to work at a Toyota dealership as a mechanic, and I'm fairly comfortable with a lot of the basic maintenance items. (Easiest oil change ever.) As far as cosmetic maintenance, I will admit that I am fairly inexperienced. It's all good, more things to read up on while I have downtime at work!

Congratulations. I still remember ordering mine. Waited 3 months. Got the car. Revved her to 4000 for the 1st 1000 miles. I could hardly wait to rev it past 7000. At 7000 ...... all was good. Enjoy the car.

i thought mine was bad,

i had to wait 3 days!
i put a deposit it on, car came on a monday, saw it come off the truck
i got to help take off all the package material they had on it,

4 miles on it when i went for a test drive

Awesome story!

Here's my timeline: Discovered the car > Did research > Wrote out calculations and initially forced myself to wait a year to buy car outright > Got curious and went to take test drive > Said "fuck this" and bought car 2 weeks later.

No regrets. :D

CONGRATULATIONS, Hot-Lava_Dave .......

As long as we are telling stories ..... :D

I had to wait one day. I stopped into the dealership one day to look at them and they had only an asphalt in stock (which I didn't like the color), but I did take it for a drive ….. and it "fit".

I asked the salesman to call me when they get a red one in. The next morning he called and said they got a red one and white one in, fresh off the boat.

I rounded up mrs humfrz and we went down to the dealership. She said I like the white one better than the red one ..... so, I ask the salesman if the white one was an MT, he said yes, so, I said we would take it.

I paid him cash and drove it off the lot.

PS - when I mentioned to mrs humfrz that I was going to "look at" a Scion FR-S, all she read was the Scion part and thought I was going to get one of those refrigerator looking cars ....... she was so relieved, that I hadn't lost the rest of my marbles, she said ..... YES ..... :happyanim:

humfrz

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. Yeah, that break in period is going to be hell! I wanted to buy this car a lot sooner, but it would not have been financially sound. Also, I totally dig story time with Humfrz! :D

Congrats!
For me: Sat in FR-S for first time ever, came back with deposit an hour later and drove away with it.

The break in period will go by fast. If anything, take a weekend roadtrip!

Is hot lava essentially a rare color? I couldn't get one so I ended up settling with ultramarine I couldn't wait for a car with 40 extra miles to be brought to my dealer "new"
