Looking for some cheap (~$50) exterior mods to make the car my own :)

I really want to make this car my own and unique without over-doing it (in terms of both money - and straight up ugly).

I don't have the budget to buy a body kit (I don't really want one tbh). I plan to buy a rear diffuser pretty soon, as well as a K&N air filter (I know this isn't exterior).

But that's what I like - ~$50 mods I can throw on once a month or so as I can afford them. Honestly I want to rice it up without being too over-the-top. I refuse to put anything on with words (stickers that say 'fresh 2 death' and that nonsense). I know some people will flame if you like rice or your car looks ricey, but FOR ME...I like a little rice..

So anywhere around ~$50-~$100 or so, let me know what you recommend!
Preferably exterior

BTW: I have a WRB if that matters :)

cdq85 10-02-2015 02:33 PM

sounds like you need to go crazy with a can of plastidip :w00t:

Tape a $100 bill to the dash. No one else has done that yet?

This has the best ROI. OP seems money conscious so mods probably aren't the best thing. However, I think LEDs would be a cheap start that make a noticeable difference. A Yospeed custom plaque would be nice also.

In addition to the center console plaques, Yospeed does custom door sill engravings. Shoot him an email to see if he would do one for you.

Sure, it's not "exterior" per say (as in only you would see it most of the time), but it'll put a little extra smile as you get in. It'll also make the car "your own" as you posted.

wat? i really wish i could get performance brake pads that cheap.

pancake 10-02-2015 04:42 PM

Thank you all very much!

I'm fairly new to cars, as this is my first 'performance' car, so there are many things listed that I don't know what they are. Which means I get to do some research on them! I look forward to it, thanks again!

Why wish, when you have the internet? Project Mu, StopTech, WinMax even Hawk, also if he's willing to go used, higher end pads are constantly put on sale on the board. This isn't hard to do.

de-badge your trunk. that's the first thing I did and it looks extremely clean. of course, I left the subaru logo on and just removed the letters. best thing is that it is completely free.

I don't know. If they did they never said anything and I haven't seen it around again. Could be somebody from the SWO Facebook group but I don't go on there much.

Best bang for your buck mods. Depending on the size of the sticker you can get anywhere between 5 to 15hp!!!!!

I actually already got a Berk Muffler delete and Smoked Valenti tails (I love both).

I was thinking about lowered springs, but 2 things:

1) I live in Michigan, and I would probably have to remove them come winter
2) I feel like the ride would be much bumpier/harsher than stock. Is that true?

Dropped almost 2 inch's and am right across the lake from you. With good snows I didn't have a single issue and I drive 3500 miles a month.

Depending what you get the ride can be almost as good as stock to bone crushing. Mine is almost as good as stock but with a little more stable feel in the turns.

Last I saw, you have the RSR Superdowns, even though you originally thought they were the TRD Springs, correct? I was originally thinking about the Eibach Pro-kit, but I might go with the Superdowns since they give a larger drop.

Correct. As I recently said in another thread on paper they are supposed to give a 1.2" drop in front and a 1.4" drop in rear but when measured against 3 stock suspensions it is closer to 1.75" front and just shy of 2" in back. At that level I was worried since to the best of my knowledge anything that low should have bolts and LCAs as well and I don't but so far with almost 50K miles I have had zero issues so am not sweating it.

No alignment issues? Was looking into getting the milder RSRs along with bolts and an LCA for a .5" drop...

If that's the case, I may go ahead and get it..

I have not had it checked although I keep meaning to. Certainly don't feel anything and the tire wear is as even as you can get so I am not too worried about it. I could be asking for trouble at some point but if nothing has shown up after so many miles I doubt it will.
I am far from an expert on the subject though as most of my old cars I worked very hard to get them up in the air not down but from everything I have read if you are going under an inch you don't need anything else anyway.

I remember when i first got my car i said the exact same thing. Something like, i don't want to do too much, add a bit of lights and things to change it just a little only so that others who actually own the car would know the differences.

Got the car and quickly drove it to formula Drift

Keep in mind a $50 mod will look like a $50 mod. Kust keep it stock in the meantime.

Asking what can be bought for $50 is hardly a way to make the car your own. What you will get is what everybody else wants to make the car their own. Shouldn't have to go looking for ideas they should just come to you.

Well the $1500 just means he has to save up $50 only 30 times.

Plastidip something.

ryoma 10-03-2015 04:09 PM

whatever you do, do NOT look at other people's build journals. you will most likely find yourself tossing away your self control and go on a parts buying spree lol
