My fr-s on the dyno

Took the fr-s to a dyno for a baseline I dont know if I should be disappointed or not? It was a AWD dyno and the owner said that it reads similar to a mustang dyno. What do you guys think?

Looks pretty normal, certainly within standard deviation. How many miles on it? Probably a few more horses there as it continues to loosen up a bit.

I dyno'd mine at 600 miles and it made 146whp with a dyno room temp of 91 degrees. I think that it is a little low and i'm waiting to pass the 1000 mile mark to re do it again.

I was also shocked that it was in the low side and brought me back memories of the whole mazda RX8 hp issue when they came out.

mine did 159/132 stock, on a dynojet. don't worry, those numbers are fairly normal- especially if he says his runs more like a mustang.

Your numbers are within range of what we've been seeing.

From what I've seen from the other cars dynoed on this forum...the numbers will improve with time. Wait till after break-in to get in another run...

Looks great to me!

Running sweet

Just be careful. If one of those straps fails off the dyno she goes. Should always have cross straps (front and rear) when on 2 rollers.

Toyota FR-S, eh? :)

doriNIGHTS 06-23-2012 10:29 PM

Thanks guys it had 720 miles on it when I dyno'd it. Hopefully it will open up a little more when it has more miles on it.

Haha I just noticed that, I guess because I had toyota emblems on it? lol

Were you running the recommended 93 octane? Didnt I hear running 91 would lose upward of 10 hp?

I believe that this engine does NOT make 200bhp.

Looking at all the low dyno numbers and also characterized by how the car behaves/drives I estimate the actual BHP of the engine to be at about 185-190.

Unless this particular drivetrain has some serious losses in excess of +20%. That is TOO high for a manual transmission car, if it was an auto I would accept it.

Not sure about this. These cars seem to vary from dyno to dyno, like every other car. I have seen stock FRS's dyno between 160-170+ on a Dynojet. That seems about right to me. Honda's F20 was rated for 240hp and AP1's dyno between 190-200 max. So im sure the FA20 is pretty close to it's claimed 200 hp.
