Smart Stop Technology...how does it work
 

I heard that smart stop tech also work like hill assist. i was wonder how do you activate it in a manual tranny car.

What exactly are you referring to? Systems that shut off the engine at idle?

just wondering how you would do this on a manual

SST is included in every new Scion to help reduce engine power when both brake and gas are pressed at the same time under certain conditions.
Scion added the braking system enhancement known as Smart Stop Technology. This advanced technology automatically reduces engine power when both pedals are pressed at the same time under certain conditions.
Smart Stop Technology intervenes when the accelerator is depressed first (Figure 1) and the brakes are applied firmly for longer than one-half second at speeds greater than five miles per hour. (Figure 2)
In normal driving conditions, you won't notice Smart Stop Technology, as it is imperceptible. The feature doesn't engage if the brake pedal is depressed before the accelerator pedal.
This allows time for the driver to move from brake to acceleration when starting on a steep hill to accelerate, helping to avoid rolling backward.
Scion has installed Smart Stop Technology in all 2011 models, making it one of the first brands to add this braking technology as standard equipment.

sounds like a panic stop mode for ex Prius drivers

I did my first 86 manual hill start yesterday on about 30deg in full rain (wipers at full, still couldnt see shit) with a 911 on my bumper, TC fully off, wheels didn't even chirp.

Ok I am a confident experienced driver but hill starts are a non issue in this car.

Its a manual transmission car.... why the hell would you need it? If your throttle hangs somehow you step on the clutch and put it in neutral.

This =/= rocket science.

The smart stop BS is a result of the morons who caused the Toyota "unintended-acceleration" scandal. Those who didn't know how to stop an accelerating car by either shifting into neutral (DUH!!!), shutting the car OFF (bigger DUH!!!) or overpowering the engine with the brakes (BIGGEST DUH!!!).
