When did these cars get so expensive? A dirt cheap model is considered to be $13k? I am confused.

Look at the chart. It tells you when it got expensive. It is a rare model so they may have used that one example to raise value of what they think it is worth. Just because it is for sale for that much doesn't mean its worth that much.

I've also seen guys who are forced to sell their classic/collectible car because of the wife and they put it at a high price so they can keep it or get paid out to pick up a nice brand new car.

It's a classic example of trying to inflate the market. One guy puts a ridiculous amount hoping some one would meet them in the middle. Or get everyone to raise their price.

I can see that car being really special in terms of historical significance, but that's it. At the end of the day, having the engine hanging outside of the wheelbase, coupled with 80s chassis technology is going to yield a pretty lame car by today's standards.

But that lineage though!
