Exhaust Cabin Noise, MXP UEL Headers and OP, Tsudo Catback

What's up guys!

So this weekend, I finally got around time to installing my exhaust. My set up is listed below. Installation was great except for the fact the Tsudo has the fitment issue other members have complained about.

Nonetheless, when I started the car I instantly shi**ed my self. This is my first time with an aftermarket exhaust so my cherry was still intact.

Anyways, after driving it around for only 3 days (including a trip from LA to SB), I've noticed a couple things.

This exhaust sounds great. It's a little raspy since I am on 1 cat but its is nice and deep. There is no highway drone but it slightly drones at 50 mph on 5th gear with the windows up. (turns out it was because my rear seats were down)

Needless to say I am going to give it some time (I'm broke anyways). Do you guys have any advice on how to combat this? I was thinking about a resonated J pipe or dynamatting the car, but dynamatting will run a lot unless its DIY.

Also, whenever I start rolling at first gear, my exhaust makes noise that sounds like a marble being shaken in a glass bottle. I'm convincing myself that theres nothing wrong because it only happens under load under 1k rpm.

Another thing I'm concerned about is that at idle with the AC on, it makes a very quiet clatter or rattle. I think it's the same problem another member mentioned. It only happens when the AC is on and I can't hear it when I'm rolling. I am also convinced this is normal but I'm just making sure.

Thanks guys!

Have you tried plugging soundtube? It should also reduce road noise in cabin. Reuse 2nd cigarette lighterplug's plug from glove box to plug hole below front of passenger carpet.

I'm more than sure it is the exhaust. I've had an inlet tube installed for a couple months not, but thank you for helping :).

That's drone for you. You have a catted front pipe it sounds like, sounds like you need a resonated mid pipe, if you can find one, or have someone fab one.

check the overpipe is not hitting the chassis its a very common issue, you can sometime fix it by drillind a new hole in the front pipe mounting bracket above the original and using nut\bolt so the front pipe sits closer to the car underbody ,this then lifts the overpipe slightly as it often hits on underside of overpipe.

Isnt the tsudo catback resonated? It looks like it. This is the catback I have:

Thank you! This must be it. Also, I notice when I accelerate I get a hissing noise. Is this common or do I have an exhaust leak. It sounds like a sprinkler and it's only while accelerating. I sort of trust the shop I installed it so I don't think I would have a leak, but i believe they only checked the catback and not the headers/op

@steve99

Better yet, do you think its possible to check for an exhaust leak using the OFT?

Edit: I searched and I found this link: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53254

Probably not what you want to hear, but you should have tried the Header, OP with the stock FP and catback. Might have been the perfect sound you're looking for with the most gains possible.

Aftermarket headers generally make different sounds than stock headers, my openflash headers make a whooshing noise on acceleration many people report this, it likely due lack of heat shields and that they are made of lighter guage material, so more noise gets transmitted. This is probably normal for your header as well.

If you log LTFT (long term fuel trims) exhaust leaks will usually show up as high (over 10%) LTFT usually positive at lower rpm say below 3000 then above 3000 ltft is low.

You can usually smell exhaust gasses in the engine bay if the header or overpipe is leaking is leaking.

I know!!! I actually made a post asking for sound clips with only Headers with or without OP. I'm getting used to the sound. I was just in shock I guess (also my rear seats were down).

I have no regrets, the sound is great, I'm just a bit worried. It's all a learning experience anyways :bonk:.
