Best sounding intake?

I installed a TRD intake today. Perf is great but I had no expectations on that dept...

I was hoping for a nice growl under the hood but theres barely any improvement over the stock sound. I am utterly disappointed to be honest...

This is coming from a honda background where an intake made your 1.6L bark and growl. I had an AEM CAI on a late 90's civic si. Yea I know its gimmicky but hey it adds to the experience...

So my question is - which of the available intakes can get something nice and loud, similar to the Honda vtecs? Or will they all sound like the TRD...?

Experiences and suggestions appreciated!

I can kind of hear my Grimmspeed intake in my garage, but when I get on the street all I hear is my exhaust. lol. I don't think you can really hear your intake unless you go turbo.

Into any one of them and then scaled x4.

Or go to a speed density system.

Doesn't the TRD intake eliminate the sound generator...??

If so, wasn't part of the "growl" removed ...... :iono:

Don't let these old farts get to your head lol.
I came from a honda accord with a header and exhaust and coming to the FRS I didn't want a really loud exhaust.

I ended up getting the Perrin CAI, which eliminates almost all the resonators and is the only CAI that I'm aware of that resides in your bumper and I love the way it sounds.
For reference, I have a UEL Header (rest of the exhaust is stock) and I can CLEARLY hear the intake, sounds great!
Here's a video for comparison against stock:

(Inside reference)
Still have my intake feed into the cabin ;)

If you want sound get any short-ram intake with a cone filter. A stainless mesh cone filter will have a different sound than cotton gauze filter or foam element.

In reference to hearing an engine "sucking air", the young-ens would have really gotten off hearing these suckers kicking it ....... :D

also, metal intake tubes will make more sound than composite/plastic or silicon. If you want sound with no consideration for actual performance.

Funny thing is I traded my headers with a forum member because he didn't like the lack of exhaust noise. Different stroke for different folks. They sell those whistles for you exhaust tips if you like sounds, yo. j/k
