I measured the deflection of the bar with respect to the bushing mount with one rear wheel loaded and the other side free. I don't think I got to full compression but it was still practically nothing compared to the torsional strain in the bar.

Ahh, gotcha. Well that seems conclusive enough for me. Looks like I'll be shopping a really mild set of bars, rather than just bushings.
