Plasti dip or entire car wrapped
Has anyone plasti dipped or wrapped their entire car? Just wondering how durable it is, how much it cost and any other thoughts about it. I'm tired of the black paint in the car. I would love to get the nardo gray that Audi offers.

I plasti-dipped my whole car cost me about 800. In oregon. Scratches easy especially around door handles. Hasn't peeled off from driving, heavy wind storm. Or heavy rain. I have around 6 coats of undercoat and like 7 layers of topcoat. I didn't spray it my self had it professional done.. depends on how it's sprayed and took care. Depends on how long it last. Still have it on had it on since Feb 2015

im just not a fan of plasti dip, i know if done right it can look good
but it just is cheap IMO Vinyl wrapping looks better in my eyes IMO, but it deff more expensive dont quote me, but to wrap a car can cost around $3500 or so |
Vinyl looks 100000 times better than plasti-dip.
Have you tried autodip?? |
I've got my whole car wrapped in Satin Chameleon Green (flip flops between green, blue and purple). If you have any questions I'd be happy to answer.
Touching on pricing, it can really vary. I've seen some places charge around $1500-$2000 for basic colours like mate black or something. Depends alot on what material is being used and how much you'll need (depends on car size). Mine would've gone for around $3000-$3500 (talking all canadian dollar) |

Andd no matter what wrap or dip you do, it will never look as good as clean detailed paint. Unless you want to change the whole color of the car it wont be that much more expensive

Just about anything else > plasti dip

For example, if the wrap is too thin it may be more prone to fading or taking damage from smaller debris (rocks etc). Also if the workmanship is poor it can result in lots of lifts/bubbles and if not sealed correctly on the edges of the wrap it can start to lift over time and maybe even peel (uncommon) So far I've had the wrap on for a bit over 2 years and its been pretty good. Needed a few touch ups here and there but really not that bad. I however do not winter drive it but I know someone that does and its still in good condition. My wrap in particular though was a "beta" vinyl and the finish has not held up as well as I had hoped. Satin finishes are the hardest to find detailing products that work on it well. Easiest to hardest to maintain: Gloss finish - Matte finish (lots of products that are meant ONLY for matte) - Satin finish |

Nice wrap Sweet48! I have looked into that Chameleon wrap and its on the cards..
I wrapped my frs myself, cost 500 for the metallic black vinyl and another 40 for the neon yellow. Attachment 121003 Attachment 121004 I am about to help a guy spray his car with plasti dip.. I recommended vinyl but he is tracking the car, it is an older Eagle Talon. I think its ok for the temporary cheap color change but if you want something more "show car" standard then go wrap or paint. My car's fenders used to be plasti dipped.. I would never use it again on a nice car like the FRS as it looks tacky and peels off/ wears quicker than wrap. I dont think the flat look goes well on curvy cars, suits older boxy cars better. Most people can't tell my car is wrapped until I tell them, then they are even more surprised I did it myself. It takes some time and patience.. my Vinyl skills have vastly improved and I look to wrap the thing again if I still have it next year. |
Thanks RedEdTed :D You're car looks wicked!
I tried wrapping part of my car (the rear bumper) and I overheated and over stretched it and I ended up tearing part of my vinyl :'( I ended up just throwing another piece on top to patch it and called it a day haha To OP: I would recommend wrap over plasti-dip all day. Mainly for the ease of uninstallation. (I've seen some nightmares of cars being "un plasti-dipped") |
Thanks guys for the input. I'm thinking that plasti dip is out unless if it's for the wheels. I might do a wrap if the price is right and if the color is available.
