Insurance for track days?

I am planning on tracking my car but wondering what are you guys doing for insurance on the track? My understanding is they do not cover anything on a closed circuit whether its timed or not. Any have recommendations for a good insurance company? I'm not sure if I should go through my regular carrier or go with a company that specializes in this.

regular insurance will not cover you

if you tell your insurance company that "ohh hai i'll be going to a racetrack this weekend" there is a good chance they will cancel you on the spot

you can get track insurance through highly specialized organizations, but their cost are so high that it's not worth it unless you're driving a ferrari or something. Although i suggest you ask around since quotes for these things are very personal and depend on a lot of variables.

but the vast majority of people who go to track days understand fully that if you crash and break your car, it's on you.

welcome to the hobby

Check with these guys:

Less than 200 bucks for a weekend usually. Never used to buy it until I saw an instructor roll his own Porsche at Roebling Road. Now, yeah, worth it.

I will ask my insurance provider if they cover track days just to give it a try. They can't cut me off for asking a question. I'm 99% they will say no but doesn't hurt trying

Thanks for the link. I'll let my father look it over to make sure all the terms and condition work for me. He's been doing insurance for decades

Great guys. You do have to go through events that they cover though, so that limits you from some of the.. uhmm.. less strict? groups. We (the group, not the students) went through an interview process, they checked out our rules, verified classroom, verified tech requirements, etc. Nothing tedious and I was happy they did so.

I noticed they insure events held by speed ventures, which I participated in the past and thought they were ran pretty good.

I've been looking through a few other forums for peoples experience with lockton and they seem to be legit. Couple people did have claims and they eventually did pay out.

The deductible seems high but not many other carriers to choose from and i'm guessing there deductible will be similiar

ive heard or people not getting renewed after asking about track days. they didnt get dropped on the spot, but when it came time to renew the insurance company may say no.

I've worked with Lockton Affinity for a number of years and cover our track car with them for every event. Fortunately I've never made a claim.

MOst regualr car insurance companies have a clause or have added a clause reading "We will not pay for any incident on a racing surface".

Feff

If you owe money on the car I would HIGHLY suggest track day insurance.

You'll be glad you paid the $200.

You can also just read your policy.

A guy crashed damaged his NC miata front bumper and hood at my local track, they towed him outside and put his car in a ditch. Insurance paid for it.... Im not saying you should do it but its been done before.
