P2096, Completely stock.
As the title states, my check engine light came on today with the code P2096. I know this is a lean code and it can pop up with headers, exhaust, CAI, and mods like that. Well my car is completely stock so I don't see why I should be getting this. Car has 9663 miles. I tried to search before posting, but everything I found was the cause of someone having mods and no tune. Any ideas?

Gas Cap

Well, now, this reference is interesting:
http://engine-codes.com/p2096_subaru.html After all of that, my best guess is that your car "hiccuped" and tossed you that code. I'll betcha if you erased the code, it won't come back ......:) humfrz |
So its been a few months and I've finally had time to look into it some more. I purchase a Scangauge 2 to track my air to fuel ratio. At idle and cruising at highway speeds it hovers around 14, But when I am in gear and let off the gas to coast it goes all the way up to 20.1 and stays there until i either take it out of gear, or step on the gas again. I am guessing that is what is causing the code. I replaced my gas cap, still had CEL. Checked for vacuum leaks, and checked the vacuum lines underneath the intake manifold to make sure they haven't fell off, nothing. Whats the next step, replacing o2 sensors?

I get 20.76 when letting off gas on the highway and have never gotten that CEL code (measured with Scantool OBDLink).
I'm sorry I can't confirm or deny your other guesses, but I think that AFR is normal when letting off the gas pedal at cruising speeds. |
Yeah I was sort of thinking that since when you are in gear and let off the gas it shuts down the injectors. I guess I'll look into replacing the o2 sensors, I feel like that's all it really could be at this point

The afr your seeing is normal 14.7 or so it idle 13 dowwn to maybe 11 at wide open throttle overrun throttle closed you will see 20 injectors shut off look at long term fuel trim LTFT if you scan tool will read it if your seeing ltft over about 8% stock car you probably have exhaust or air leak or dirty maf sensor might be a simple as exhaust gasket leak or the primary cat has burnt up or disintergrated this can happen on stock car driven hard or tracked |
