Boosted FRS no drone but too raspy!

Hey everyone having a bit of a dilemma here. After searching, researching, and careful consideration I've Cherry Picked my exhaust parts to hopefully get a decently loud exhaust note without much rasp or drone. And I'm actually quite close.

I'm running tomei UEL header, HKS dual resonated front pipe and a Greddy SP elite axleback. And I should note I am supercharged using kraftworks kit.

The sound is OK in the car and I've managed to go catless with near zero drone even at up to 80mph its pretty amazing but the rasp under even slight acceleration is unbearable and honestly embarrassing. Here's a vid:

Any suggestions on getting that rasp or poppy noise down to a minimum would be greatly appreciated! :)

That sounds more brappy than raspy to me. Unless that's the same thing.

Either way, a 200cell cat might help with minimal added restriction. Or maybe a header that's a little heavier-weight than the tomei.

The brappy is the sound I'm talking about I just wasn't sure how to word it. I agree about the cat but I'd rather not have to replace a pipe I've already replaced :/ looks like I'm going to have to give in and do something creative with my midpipe at a muffler shop. I'm still open to opinions and suggestions if anyone wants to chime in

The header is the issue...two solutions. Get a catted one or revert back to stock...

Not necessarily. I have a catless header and mine isn't brappy. It's just a heavier header than the tomei.

I just got the jdl "ultra quite" front pipe, which is catted/resonated, and helped ALOT with my rasp issues. I've got a Tomei UEL and HKS catback, the noise and rasp was out of control. This helped a lot.

That is because you have a better quality header as well as exhaust set up. Speaking specifically on his set up and what he wants, the header is the issue...

do you think the dual resonators combined with the catback is causing it? most cars with the Tomei UEL don't sound like that.

Densefire 09-22-2015 12:07 PM

All good info thanks guys! This weekend I'm going to try different combinations using the stock pipes I took off and see how it sounds. I'll post some videos.

The 200cell cat I have in my FP probably also contributes.

I think you should try putting stock muffler back on :p
