I wish those stories were not the tip of the iceberg.
I am 100% sure the scientific method does not contain a step where scientists fabricate data. [2]

[1] Whilst I know there is no standard definition of terrorist and that the word is emotionally laden I don't believe your usage here is correct.
Yes, I have seen stories here (all the way across the world in Aust.) about police powers abuse but I still don't believe that is terrorism.
Consider this scenario:
A person (but probably a man) blows up a petrol station causing the deaths of 35 people. Is this an act of terrorism? It depends. If he had a falling out with his missus because she wouldn't give him a blow job then it is not terrorism, it is mass murder. If the person released a clip on YouTube saying he is blowing up the petrol station because he believes all the penguins should be set free from the zoo it is terrorism. Same act, different motivation. I don't think the police brutality is terrorism because the police officers involved were abusing their power not trying to promote political change.

[2] You are promoting confirmation bias.
I do not think that scientists are white coated infallible demi-gods. I appreciate that they are human and subject to the same fallibilities as everyone else (except for myself of course :) ). That is, they are subject to ego, honest mistakes, confirmation bias, political maneuvering in large organisations and in some case out right deception. BUT this does not mean every single one of them is out to deceive everyone else. Without scientists we would still be living somewhere in the middle ages.
Speaking of confirmation bias your link is a prime example. Of course if you Google those words what do you expect the results to be?

I am suggesting that there are very few people on this forum have sufficient background to make educated claims about climate change (either for or against) but given your reluctance to trust scientists where do you get your information from? A scientist who is either for or against man-made climate change is still a scientist. That is, regardless of the scientist's stand on climate change they are subject to the same criticisms you make against them. You trust the people who support your view but dis-trust those to who oppose it?

Holy shit batman that wall of text.
But seriously it's a simple switch of a buttom and all the VW cars will be "legal" again. Eh mpg would drop a few miles but meh.

Thank you for a most cogent and succinct response.

I would like to look you in the eyes and earnestly shake your hand.

I don't know what scares me more..global warming or knowing that a lot of people out there actually think like why?

We, as a species, are not good at planning for the future. We place more importance on here and now or maybe next week but not something that's years away. Here in Australia many people approaching retirement are not in a position to enjoy their retirement because they didn't plan for it.

As for climate change we don't have to do anything but it is our environment that dictates how well we can live. If the crops fail, as they do periodically in India when the monsoon is weak or non-existent, people die.

I just hope I am around to see the down fall.

@why?
Not going to quote your whole thesis but you really need to stop being so condescending and presumptuous that everybody that does not agree with you is just ignorant of the "facts" as you see them. I am well aware of the theories that fossil fuels may indeed not be created from the traditional sources but every other theory still requires millions of year for it to develop and therefore is still not a renewable source. As Snooze so eloquently pointed out if you search the right thing you will find somebody that supports your view point. The fact that the somebody may be either a Nobel winning team of scientists or a 40 year old conspiracy theorist in their parents basement wearing a tinfoil hat makes that support questionable at best.

I was thinking the same. Would VW slash prices to entice customers to buy their vehicles? Either way they'll need to do something; if they go belly-up because of this scandal, they'll need to sell off existing inventory, if they don't, they'll have to do something to entice customers to buy their vehicles after this huge loss of 'trust'

DAEMANO 09-22-2015 11:14 AM

@why?

It looks like the repressive neo-fascist proto-communist leftist socialist Kenyan alphabet soup duo of the EPA and CARB helped to unravel not just 500,000 cars with rigged ECUs, but instead 11 million worldwide. Brilliant.

Looks like the only conspiracy here was the one led by VW execs to try to circumvent laws globally. Please explain who's done the "evil" here.

The story is being reported everywhere, but I'll post the link from Fox News so you might actually believe it's happened.

If Fox News is reporting on it, it MUST be true
