Got my VIN for new Hyperblue....now what?

The dealership emailed me my VIN for my BRZ 2016 coming in next month.

What good does the VIN do me at this point?

Just curious.

for your car insurance ?

benrz 09-18-2015 09:59 AM

First time ordering a new car?

bababooey 09-18-2015 10:05 AM

they do that to make one wait impatiently

raven1231 09-18-2015 10:31 AM

you wait, and wait, and wait, and then wait some more. That's about it really.

RL_BRZ 09-18-2015 10:46 AM

be patience.... wait... wait... wait...

Timmy_Jones 09-18-2015 11:59 AM

should have bought a 2015.

MisterSheep 09-18-2015 12:13 PM

They give you the vin number for you to get insurance. And to make your last month a living hell while you wait for your new car ;p

Yes insurance, but the biggest thing...

You now know your car exists and is only just a few thousand miles away from you. It's actually probably on a boat (along with mine) and a few others here.

Was another thread needed, little jonny boy?

The insurance thing is nonsense. It takes 30 minutes or less to get your car insured, and you don't want insurance on the car until you actually have it. I doubt my insurance company would even let me buy insurance on a car I ordered until it actually arrived, since delivery dates are fluid.

They send you the VIN number so that you know that there is an actual car with your name on it, so that you won't get fed up with waiting and go buy something else. When it's just an order floating out there in space somewhere, there's a sense that it's not real yet, and buyers aren't reluctant to cancel. Once there's an actual, physical car on its way, it seems like more of a done deal, and people are less likely to back out.

going from what was said above,

It is a form of landing you into the realm of commitment and mental ownership.

See how you said "my VIN" and "my BRZ" ??

You haven't even paid the full amount for the car so how could you call it yours?

It's the magic of the VIN.

Make a 16 ft banner. Hang it on your house.

Mr.ac 09-18-2015 10:49 PM

Yep, for insurance. The dealer will not let you drive off the lot with proof. Use this time to shop around.
