FR-Sandwhich: Total or not total?

Hey guys, I just got rear ended by a driver on the free way and got sandwiched behind another car. Everyone was okay but I think I got whiplash. The airbag went off and there's plenty of damage on the front and rear. It wasn't drivable since the muffler would drag on the street.

What do you guys think?

Total

Glad you are OK, with the exception of the whiplash ....which I hope doesn't turn into something worse.

However, your car isn't looking too good ...... maybe it can be fixed .... maybe not ...:iono:

That's a shame your car got so messed up ..... :(

Doesn't look like a total

If the airbag went off, you're probably going to get totaled, depending on how much your car is worth in your area. Those SRS components aren't cheap!

Hopefully those non-DOT tail lamps don't become an issue... :(

7k fix if cosmetic.

Hope you ok, and insurance gets you 2015 at least.

Were you not running plates ?

GT86_PRAGUE 09-18-2015 06:03 AM

This is far from totalled, but will be expensive.
I would bet it would cost less than 50% of a car price.

I had payed $12000 for much worse accident.

So the good news is you can keep the car! Bad news is it won't be worth shit.

Uhm.. Looking at the pictures I don't think I would consider it being totaled. But you have a high chance since the airbag went off. Let us know how they feel about the tail lights you had on there... Someone could fight and make it your fault if the person behind you didn't know you were braking because of non-dot approval tails.

Goodluck!

It's safe to assume the airbag components themselves account for ~$4,000.

fumanchu1 09-18-2015 12:38 PM

Yeah damage doesn't look too terrible. Although seeing as it's a new car and the airbag deployed you may be able to get away with the insurance calling it totalled. I would inspect the front and rear to try and find anything that was bent(let's say you bent the rad support that's another + for getting a totaled status for the car).

Anyways good luck with that and hopefully all will be alright

Why do you guys think those are not DOT compliant? They look like they have side markers, and they're visible in sunlight, which likely means they meet the minimum candlepower requirements. Those look like Buddy Club lamps. Those are sold by forum vendors who claim they are DOT compliant.
