Shop Recommendation for Painting Aftermarket Parts in PDX
 

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has positive experience getting aftermarket parts painted somewhere in Portland? I'm considering purchasing side skirts for my car, but the company that makes them does not offer paint, so I'll have to find somewhere locally to do it.

The only place I can think of is Precision Body & Paint of Beaverton; they repainted my front bumper when the dealership damaged it, and I was pretty happy with how it turned out, but honestly I've had a negative experience in almost every shop I've had my car worked on in Portland (noticeable scratch(es) or other damage after I got it back, shoddy workmanship, etc).

The parts would be FRP - thanks in advance for any anecdotes, or advice!

With frp, you are going to probably have to do some work to the skirts to get them to fit just right. After those modifications, then you can take it to a shop for paint. You looking for a good shop or you want a low price. There is a couple good places in the area.

I'm looking for quality work, not cheap - although I'd prefer not to go to a shop with sulfurous prices for this sort of work. Thanks!

I would suggest doing the prep for fitment and pre body work before taking the individual pieces to a shop. There really isn't a need to take the entire vehicle to a paint shop and it would cut down the chance of scratches "appearing" elsewhere. Really any shop can paint side skirts, I know years ago alpine autobody wanted to stay away from aftermarket. I had really good repair done to my last car at nw autobody in Vancouver. But like I said any shop should have no problem spraying them when they are off the car.

Hit up @digital_assassin where ever he got his front lip painted. Is where I would go.


Also maybe we can double dip and get my DF wing color matched too.

@Ammunition - Talk to Les Lake at Tualatin Auto Body. They are awesome. They are also the shop that did Thomas' rocket bunny.

Kadels also does a great job with paint.

Yeah, I intended to bring them to a shop before installing them, but I don't want them damaged either (the shop that installed the custom clear bra on my front lip peeled a quarter-sized strip of paint off of the bottom, and left scratches in it after I had paid to have it polished and opti-coated - hence my apprehension).

Yes, they did the Varis bumper. I wouldn't take your parts to a shop like Kadels that only specializes in collision repair. Painting and prepping FRP takes experience, it's not what most shops deal with. Tualatin Auto Body specializes in hot rods, Corvettes, and Porsche vehicles and know what they are doing with FRP. The shop that did Wally's car also did an exceptional job. That shop is Superior Autobody in Gresham. Those 2 shops are confirmed to do quality work on FRP.

@Ammunition did you talk to any of those guys by any chance? Earlier today some idiot backed into me at a red light and fucked my front lip some more and took a few chunks out of my bumper. Look to either repair or replace the pumper and lip.
