Red Star Raceway 30 Sept

Open track day for cars at Red Star Raceway on Wed 30 Sept from 9am.
Likely to be minimal traffic on track and plenty track time to polish your driving skills.
I'm in!! R600 for the day.

This is a good day to call in sick and get your butt there!! :)

Freedom 09-18-2015 02:52 AM

I happen to be sick on that day :iono:

JouMaSeHoes 09-18-2015 03:25 AM

I'm there....

LostSalad 09-18-2015 08:55 AM

I've applied for leave, I don't see why it wouldn't be approved. See you guys there.

Fish Eagle 09-28-2015 03:26 AM

My car's prepped, loaded and ready to go. Can't wait... :)

I'm determined to go sub 2m20 on Wednesday, but my wildest dream would be to better 2m18.4 - because that's the best that my friend Len could do in his BMW M5 two weeks ago and I would really like to beat that.

Fish Eagle 09-28-2015 10:00 AM

I've just received the weekly SMS from Red Star confirming that Wednesday is an open day for cars.
Interesting that they say the price is R460 - it's normally R600.
Wonder if that's real or a mistake??

Freedom 09-28-2015 10:24 AM

Well, you have to come there to find out. :)

I'll be there either way, it's just that the R140 is seriously significant - that's like a 23% discount which is almost 2% of a set of tyres.

Mmm - OK, ignore that. Maybe it's worth a few beers... :)

I had a second SMS a bit later which also says R460.
Sounds like they're trying to encourage cars.

 well played sir. Well played. Every time I drive behind you I just notice how damn smooth your lines are :burnrubber:

Stigworx feedback:

The best time I managed was a low 2:34. We ran out of obvious areas of improvement to analyse, because without a damn fast reference lap from Jacques Stiglet there was no extra time "jumping out at me" so to speak. However going over the data with Adrian was still really beneficial. Not just figuring out the better lines, but looking at the data and understanding why they worked out better. This is definitely transferrable knowledge.

Also, I already knew in my head that "slower is smoother and smoother is faster". Having hard data to back that up is awesome though. Often times the more relaxed braking ended up being faster just because the car was more settled at turn-in. Or sacrificing speed on one corner to set up better for the next one. Taking a look at the driver camera and looking at how steering lock is applied (and unapplied).

It's a lot of information to absorb, and with the amount of corners on Red Star you really have to choose where to focus your attention. Not to mention, switching between driving and analysis with only 2 groups at the track is... totally exhausting!

Fun day out though, thanks to the few who joined :party0030:

I almost went farming but then decided not to at the last minute

Note to self: try not to brake hard with a wheel on the grass

I did the same with a curb. Slippery yo. I'm glad I kept the VSC on - catching power-on oversteer is one thing, but a sudden violent slip at higher speeds is another animal.

For the first time in my life, I passed an open-wheel single-seater racecar today (Formula Monoposto) - never done that before. :D
