Automatic transmission hard parking engage and disengage
As the title says,
When shifting into P the car makes a really loud CLUNK noise.this is not the usual pin engagement from the auto transmissions. Same thing happens when disengaging from P. This issue only happens sometimes, 40% consistency. This did not happen before. Car has 55k km on it. Thoughts ladies and gents? |

Are you parking on an incline by chance? |
uhhhh, your phrasing makes it sound like you are still moving and then slamming into P which would makes all sorts of funky noises.

Read the whole thing carefully. |
Ah. Apologies. It seems I have caused confusion and thought of retardation aimed in my general direction
The car is at a complete stop when shifting into P. The noise happens when the P engages. The release of the foot brake then causes the residual movement of the car which engages the parking pin on the transmission (which is the the normal thing on autos). This happens on both incline and flat. |
It's happened to me a handful of times. Clunks for no reason, but I park on a slight slight incline at home, not sure if that contributes to it...

normal bro
70k km here |
What I do:
Car stopped with foot on brake Set handbrake Put a/t in neutral Take foot off foot brake-- car will move slightly if you are on an incline as its position is determined by the handbrake Move lever to P position. There is now no load on the parking pin Takes only a couple of seconds after it becomes habit |

Guarantees zero stress on the locking pawls no matter how shitty the design. I will add, from the factory, the hand brake is adjusted like shit on every single 13 MY I've seen. Dunno if they ever got better but it's pathetic. I had the wheels off and adjusted the drums within the first week. 2 clicks and it's locked up. |

hmmm going to try this tomorrow. Going to be difficult to change habit lol |

P will be hard to disengage when the fluid level is off too. |
Trying this for the next few days. Amazing. Tyvm.
Fluid might be an issue. Will look at when that needs to be serviced. Thnx :)) |

I never needed to put in neutral though with the allroad though. Edit: premature post, didn't finish reading. Excuse me... Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk |
