Brz sitting for a extended amount of time
 

Hi all I recently got into a little bit of a legal issue and won't be able to drive for the next 30 days. So during this time my car will be sitting outside and not be running. Just wondering what type of steps I might need to maintain it and prevent animals and such from getting in the engine bay. I did fill the gas tank and will have access to it so I can run it for a few minutes a day to get the fluids going, but any other advice would be appreciated, thanks!

If you can check it every couple of days then animals shouldn't be an issue. When you run it make sure you leave it long enough to get right up to full temperature. Other than that there shouldn't be much you need to do for such a short period. If you think about it the cars sit for months at the dealer's lots and you can bet they don't do anything special with them.

In addition to what Tcoat mentioned, by cranking it up about once per week should keep the battery charged up; every day would be harmful unless it gets really warmed up.

I find that I end up leaving my BRZ stationery for up to 3 to 4 weeks due to work commitments and usually find the battery dead. As I can't leave the car on a trickle charge I I have invested in a Ventura portable power pack which acts as a jump starter.

honestly I agree with Tcoat, but will add the second you can drive it drain the gas tank because the corn fuel goes bad after a month and a half to two months. Run it at a minimum of 15 minutes, it is not just about the fluids, but the battery needs to recharge enough as well, too short and you will drain the battery.

Other than the battery running down, I would not be concerned about just 30 days.

You could invest in a $20 trickle charger from walmart if you can reach the car with an extension cord.
If not, you could get a solar panel charger that sits on the dash board and plugs into the cig lighter.

First, get a car cover.
Secondly, spray animal repellent around car. Usually smells citric and contains cinnamon.
Third, every week take off cover, undust it if you live in dusty area, and apply more repellent around car. Maybe quik wax it?

Then, youre good. Pet shops that carry reptiles also offer free snake poo you can throw under cars. Helps with warding off birds and cats.



Do you leave anything plugged in or have car alarm? Most i leave mine is 3 weeks. No issues besides squeaky breaks.

My car lives in sheltered parking space so it's not exposed to the weather however it does get a good airing so no danger of condensation which can be an issue if you are leaving your car outside and under a cover (based on UK weather) .

My car is alarmed and the only issue I have is that my remote lock doesn't work when the battery is flat so have to use the key to unlock and get to the battery to jump start. The brakes do get a bit rusty but they clean up easily after a short drive.

The paint has been treated using Diamondbrite so cleaning is relatively easy.

So far no other issues to report.
