Questions on Remote Start and Door Hinges
 

Morning!

My BRZ has keyless entry and remote start. If I do a remote start and then get into my vehicle, what is the order of operations to not have my car shut itself off? Is it some weird combination of pressing the start button? The manual I received from Subaru on the remote start is worthless.

Secondly, has anyone had any issues with their doors tending to swing shut instead of stay open? I feel if I'm on the slightest incline, my doors swing in. Not cool when I'm working on the interior. Probably not much that can be done- 'tis a minor quibble.

Can't help with the remote but the door closing is a very common thing. Not really broken it is just that coupe doors tend to be very long and the extra length gives them some leverage. Add the light mech used to the equation and you get doors that close on you with the slightest influence. Every single time I put something in the back seat the door closes and gently touches my butt. I just consider it the car flirting with me.

Lol'd because I always expect the car to hit my butt when I'm doing something similar -_-

Anyways idk about a remote start since it's not OEM but most OEM remote starts will shut itself off unless the driver initiates another "turn on" with
the key inside the car. Meaning clutch in + button or brake + button for AT. This is to prevent anyone else getting in and driving off with the car w/o the key.

I had the remote start installed by the factory. Wonder if its the same for all subarus.

Depressing the break shuts it off.
Pressing the start button and then the break shuts it off.
Maybe both at the same time?

Would be installed by the dealer not the factory and I don't believe they are a stock item so would be some after market manufacturer (somebody correct me if wrong). What brand/model does the manual say?

Did you buy your car from a dealer?

Was it new when you purchased it, or used?

If new, the dealer installed it and most likely used a third party installer.

If used, you'll have to go to back to the dealership and see if you can find out more information.

Another option is to take it to a local remote starter installer and ......ask for help.

There is no model from the BRZ or FRS that comes with a remote starter from the factory.

Probably need to push the clutch in and then hit the start button. That's how it worked with a C7 I test drove this weekend.

Yes, I must correct my initial statement- the remote start was installed at the dealer, not the factory.

The brand is Automate, model AM6.2
The owner's guide is a booklet with two pages of instructions but neither helps.

The car was new and is an automatic. I think I'll have to give the company a call and see. Thought a few people had remote start and keyless entry which is why I enquired.

They installed a very crappy, cheap starter in your car :(

Okay. I have a remote starter in my car, my limited AT to be exact. It's a compustar slice JR.

1. When I push to start the car, the car starts.
2. When my car starts, the doors lock.
3. When I go to open my car door, I MUST unlock my car using the remote starter. When you use the remote starter, the OEM doesn't work.
4. I get into the car., shut the door.
5. You must wait like 5 seconds before touching anything, and then you can put your car into drive or reverse.

Since your car is an auto like mine, and we both have push button starts, you shouldn't have to do anything once you're inside the car.

I can't say this will be the same for your car, but i hope it helps

The more I research the brand, the more I realize how cheap it is. Even their company page is horrible.

With my remote start, I hold the button down. The lights flash and the engine starts after a couple of seconds. The doors open when my fob is in range and I grab the handle. I get in and as soon as the break is pressed, the car stops. It doesn't matter what sequence I do beforehand.
I'll try waiting 10 seconds and see if that makes a difference.

EDIT: Yup, you have to wait for 5-10 seconds and not touch anything. Then you can hit the break and shift into gear. Problem solved!
