I'm not the grammar police, but...

Got any grammar/spelling pet peeves that really grind your gears? Post 'em up here without singling anyone out in their own thread.

There are two things I see a lot here that make me cringe.

Mobile 1, and break pads.

Icanfaptothis86 09-11-2015 07:37 PM

pickel surprise

Tcoat 09-11-2015 07:55 PM

I aint got no beaf wif anybodyes spelln or gramma as longs as I can reads it.

Oh, and they don't start the thread with "well I gonna be a techer or a wrighter"

stugray 09-11-2015 08:08 PM

this one makes my head want to pop:

"And we're waiting to see whether we'll get some rain.... .. . . . ." :mad0259:

OR NOT!
whether this OR that!
"whether " is used to refer to , at a minimum, two options

If you only have one option then:

"And we're waiting to see if we'll get some rain"

/rant

And two things that aren't necessarily "grammar":

"For all intense purposes" ......what? what do you even think that idiom even means if you say it like that?

"It's so fustrating" what? FUstrating? What the FR-uck does that mean?

:)

IBill4You 09-11-2015 10:08 PM

bear bare
heal heel
they're there their
brake break
we're were
where wear
wtf is a comma anyways?
Auto correct sabotages me sometimes.
The worst offenses include ruining a meme with poor grammar.
It really bothers me that my English 101 class had such a large gap in student skills that our teacher actually admitted to me that he had to grade based on individual progress, or he would've failed >50% of the class. I'm talking he passed English as a second language students that were below a high school level, and this is supposed to be okay.

People that lack perfect grammar are loosers and will never get anywhere in life.

I personally hate when people use portmanteaus improperly:

You of all people should know better than to do blind copy and pastes.
Both spellings are correct depending on which part of the world you come from.
"Check" isn't mis-spelt unless you are meaning to write "cheque".
Most words ending in an unstressed -our in British English end in -or in American English.

I hate when people spell lose/losing as "loose"/"loosing", and I hate that I see it on Facebook all the time.
