I have the winjet fog light kit installed on my FRS and have them wired correctly. The bulbs I am using are the PIAA 55w plasma yellow bulbs. I will list the problems I've had this far and will also what I did to fix them and lastly I will share my concern.

First issue:

The inline 15A fuse melted, so I replaced the holder and fuse with a higher quality unit. After the fix they worked as they should.

Second issue:

One of the fog lights stopped working so I inspected both, the problem was that the plugs that connect to the bulbs melted. I replaced the melted plugs with ceramic plugs and also applied dielectric grease.

My concern is, is it normal for the fogs to get that hot, and what would cause the plugs to get that hot in the first place? Since I replaced the plugs with ceramic ones, is it ok to leave the fog lights on as DLRs?

Apologies if it doesn't sound very clear. Thank you in advance for those who help out! And if there are any further questions you may have, let me know.

My guess is that they're actually not 55w bulbs, but higher. Could have also just been a crap connection (resistance = heat = resistance = thermal runaway)

I'd replace your wiring harness the winjet harness is crap to be honest.

To melt a fuse holder and the bulb connections, a lot of current had to be flowing to those bulbs. If they are actually 55W bulbs, your wires may be too small to handle the current flow, causing them to overheat and melt. You need to insure you resolve this or it could be a potential fire hazard. With the fog lights on, hold the wiring going to the lights. If it is warm to the touch, something is wrong, turn them off. Make sure the wiring is large enough to handle the load and insure that one of the power wires are not cut and touching ground somewhere. The turn on signal from inside the car should trigger a relay and the relay should supply the 12 volts to your lights. Just some ideas to check.

Here's what I ended up doing, I changed out the old H11 connectors and replaced them with the ceramic connectors and added dielectric grease. I checked to see if everything worked out fine by turning on the lights and checking to see if they get hot. They don't get hot! Thanks for all the help guys!

What's the wattage of the bulbs?
