Team Slick Auto - Ontario1500
We are very happy to announce that Team Slick Automotive (slickautosolutions.com or slickauto.ca) is less than 1-week away from our Ontario1500 Motorsport Adventure (Ontario1500.ca).
For those unaware of the Ontario1500, it is a grueling week-long auto racing competition at all Ontario tracks with a variety of motorsport competition. Schedule:
Team Slick Auto (www.slickauto.ca) Drivers: Andre Corriveau, Norman Wong & Kenny Barbeau (CMP AutoX) Car: 2013 Scion FR-S, #66 Class: Mod4 We will still be pressing on and pushing hard for a good result but we will be facing stiff competition from highly-prepped cars like a WRX STi, CRX, Mustang GT and Miata . We are one of 2 teams racing a twin, the other is the Speed Academy Scion Racing FR-S competing in our class also. Follow this thread as we will be posting updates here and also at http://www.slickautosolutions.com/blogs/news Slick Automotive Solutions is an Ottawa-based shop specializing in:

Good luck guys!
|
It sounds like a lot of fun, good luck from me too!
Hope to see some video. |
What time does the Shannonville event run from/till?
|
Good Luck guys!
I'm sure you will do well, Andre must be one of, if not the fastest 86 around CMP.. Going to join you for lapping on the 20th, unlikely I'll be able to attend any others, unless I catch some freak 24 hr bug... |
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the comments! Quote:

How come speed academy supercharge frs is in your class?
|
Quote:
Classes are either stock or mod. If you are stock and change only springs, you're in Mod and competing with cars with any mods, like supercharger and such, full cages, etc... I can't even run E85 to try and balance things out. But those are the rules, we will go out there and do our best! |
Ah mods shmods. Beet em with a better line :D good luck to slick crew!
|
when 1500 was being born I was against their entire mod philosophy... the people behind it are long-time time-attackers, and are well aware of exiting autocross rules, but decided to write a fresh rulebook from scratch.
meh if I had the money to do this, I would just buy the fastest mustang that fits into the lowest stock category, slap the largest wheels/tires on it, and go nuts. |

Thanks Slick...I was hoping I may be able to shoot down for a visit after work, but I won't likely be done early enough to make it. I'm not far from Shannonville. |
Mod class weirder than CSCS...

3 days in, status update.
Day 1 - Mosport We did well despite the Mosport power track not really suited to our car. Got a 1:41 lap, some issues including catching others on my hot laps prevented us from doing better. We got 3rd in Autox, so we ended up 3rd overall. Day 2 - Calabogie Time Attack was on the East track, we rocked out a very fast 1:20.8 to secure 4th. In autoslalom, we came out with our first win thanks to Kenny (Umb FRS) over the CanJam WRX and the Scion Racing Speed Academy in 3rd. Day 3 - Calabogie Time Attack today was on the full course, we figured we would end up around 5th or 6th due to the faster cars and the track layout with more straightaways. I ran a great lap and got a 2:26.7 on my first session. Scion Racing had a 2:26.5 and was narrowly ahead of us in 2nd with us in 3rd. Second session I had to step it up despite the track getting slower. Squeezed out a 2:26.2 to grab second and it stuck for the day. Final was WRX first, Team Slickauto.ca second (us), Camaro SS third and Scion Racing 4th. Autox was a tight battle with CanJam WRX beating us out for first, but we secured 2nd with a Miata in 3rd. For the day we got 2nd in both events and still 3rd overall so far but even closer to Scion Racing in 2nd place. Sent from my SM-N920W8 using Tapatalk |
Wow that's some great driving! Dave and Peter in the Speed Academy FRS aren't pulling much more with that extra power

Simply amazing driving by Andre, Norm and Kenny to be keeping up with cars they really shouldn't be that close to (on paper).
If you've driven Calabogie, you'll realize just how ridiculous a 2:26.5 (in the afternoon heat!) is with a close to stock FRS. |
All ready for Sunday@ DDT looks like there will be lots of track time! and some time to sit back and watch the 1500 guys

Day 4 Update:
Shannonville Nelson Time Attack in morning First session times were: 52.624 Team Scion Racing 53.399 Team Slickauto.ca 54.314 Team BMW M4 We needed to find almost a second to beat Peter in the Speed Academy FRS which was a bit too far (wasn't much left to get). I went out again in 3rd session and bettered my time but only by half a tenth but we at least secured 2nd place, with the BMW M4 of Duncan Johnson behind us in 3rd. Shannonville Pro Time Attack in afternoon After the first session we found ourselves in 3rd place with a time of 1:17.978, second was the BMW M4 of Duncan Johnson only just over a tenth faster with a 1:17.855, with the 1st place going to Team Scion Racing only a half-second ahead with 1:17.452. Close competition. I ran the second session again to try and gain a tenth at least to get to second, managed to pull off a 1:17.2 (.7 faster) to better the Scion Racing time from session 1. But they also turned up the wick, put on new fresh tires and ran a 1:15.8 I think. In that session, we managed to pull back ahead of the BMW M4 but the Camaro SS squeezed into 2nd place, so we ended up in 3rd for this session. The Canjam WRX never showed at all today, not sure if they will show tomorrow, meaning they are out of contention for overall now. So it looks that this puts us up to 2nd place for now, only 20 points behind the new leaders Team Speed Academy. Seems to be a good gap to 3rd now with the players below us mixing it up a bit. (Miata, Camaro SS, BMW M4). We'll see in the morning when they post official results. Friday is at Cayuga with another 2 Time Attack Stages (short and full courses), plus Top Speed runs at end of day. This is the home track for Speed Academy, so our goal is to just stay close behind them, hopefully only 1 position back. |

As someone who follows with great interest
Andre, Norm and Kenny. Scion Canada should be watching with great interest and should really look at marketing these incredible results somehow. You are entered in a division where your ride is significantly under powered to your competition making your combined results all the more impressive. Keep up the excellent work guys and please keep the updates coming. Very exciting to say the least. Myself and the rest of FT86Club Ottawa are extremely proud of your accomplishments. I wish I was there to hear the conversations amongst the other team members about the performance of the Slick Automotive Solutions car and the guys driving it.

Thanks Paul!
Morning Time Attack done. We managed to stay less than a second back from Speed Academy on their home track at Cayuga. The big horsepower cars were rewarded today. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09...17a4dc299a.jpg http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09...fb7f4fcc8b.jpg http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09...7844a77019.jpg Sent from my SM-N920W8 using Tapatalk |
Very wet sessions today in Grand Bend.
Managed to beat Team Scion Racing by 2 spots in Time Attack! Got 3rd place behind the #99 Subaru STi, with the Camaro SS ripping off a great lap to pip us all. Right after lunch we have 2 back-to-back autocross sessions, with hopefully a bracket drag racing session if the track can dry out later. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09...d948b59aef.jpg Sent from my SM-N920W8 using Tapatalk |
Day 6 results
Here's the video of my Time Attack run from this morning.
Could've trimmed off at least another half second, but they reduced the # of sessions from 3 down to 2 to get them done for lunch. I had a very fun 1st lap, trying to test grip levels, check out the vid. Fastest lap was on the 3rd and final lap, 68.085 secs. Got 3rd place! https://youtu.be/LdSMpvhaxLs [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdSMpvhaxLs&"]Time Attack Session 2 at Grand Bend with Andre - YouTube[/ame] Also 2 third place finishes in autocross today. Solidly in 2nd overall. Looking to have a great final day tomorrow with only 2 events left:

Bam!
We won 2nd place overall! http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09...318e92b27b.jpg Sent from my SM-N920W8 using Tapatalk |
Excellent. I bet a lot of the other competitors didn't see that coming on day 1
|
Congrats guys!
|
Amazing. Some would say you brought a knife to a gun fight and you still kicked a$$. This 2nd place is 99% driver(s) skill, 1% car. Very impressive!
:burnrubber: |
Great job guys!
Very impressive result considering the hardware the other teams were packing. Skill and consistency counts! |

- custom rear diffuser (ver.2 coming soon) - front carbon lip - ride height adjusted to only 1" lower max to not disturb geometry - Apexi dampers worked better than expected really, but higher end coilovers are on the list - street/track alignment - rear subframe and diff insert bushings - we were unable to use E85 fuel due to the Ontario1500 rules even though we were grouped with 300-500+ hp cars - seat time, seat time, seat time. Repeat as necessary.... |
