Supercharged V8 build
Hi all
After a few months on here I thought it was about time I shared my project that I’ve been creating for the past 18 months in the UK. The UK forums are much smaller than the FT86 forum and it’s great to see so many different projects and styles from around the world. Not to mention the amount of knowledge and testing on here is far more than I can find on any of the UK forums, so it’s great to get some questions answered that I may not have been able to get locally. It all started back in May 2014 when I purchased my 2013 GT86 in grey with just 5,000miles on the clock from 1 previous owner. I toyed with black and pearl white for a bit before finally deciding on the grey and it just looks fantastic in the sunlight. http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psws6b7osl.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psu9ubecit.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psjeam1agl.jpg After a 300 mile trip home, it was time to give it a good wash and was really pleased with how well she shines on a sunny day. The paintwork really pops and sparkles in direct sunlight. http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pslx96h35x.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pszykdqdh1.jpg 1st mod was to get a bit more noise from the exhaust, so I bought an Invidia Q300 catback with titanium tips and coupled it with some Borla UEL headers and a Berk front pipe with a high flow cat http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psimrx1nqo.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psmn1oya15.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psdgbbz17q.jpg Quick comparison of the stock headers vs the Borla UEL http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps7udqggye.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pskaom4w1s.jpg And acomparison of the stock front pipe compared to the Berk with HFC http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psbwjimmnf.jpg Before finally being fitted http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psrmp2wu7k.jpg This allmade a great different to the sound of the exhaust but still not quite as Iwanted it. The silencer in the Q300 catback made it too quiet for my liking, so I had a custom mid-pipe made up to replace the resonated section of the Invidia http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pssandi97w.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pssalqcmut.jpg Much better! [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6a__o6dIRI"]GT86 Borla UEL, Berk HFC, Invidia Q300 flyby - YouTube[/ame] A fewsmaller mods turned up such as bonnet lifters and an auto-folding mirror module http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pszhtuj6nr.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psllkwwqea.jpg This makes the car fold the mirrors when you lock it and unfold when you unlock. A nice little touch Next came some slightly bigger mods 18x9.5 Rays Gram Lights 57DC alloy wheels http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pseuh5xzjc.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psaxtsvrr8.jpg And a Sprintex 210 supercharger with intercooler http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psco4gkc7m.jpg Fitted in just 6 hours with the help of some friends http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps6hobq1t3.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psjylbkesd.jpg Before being taken to Abbey Motorsport in Surrey for some tuning, resulting in 254bhp at the wheels which made a world of difference! http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps3wxjebon.jpg |
Next it was time to get rid of the fog lights and replace the grills with some APR carbon ducts
Before: http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psappjpkyn.jpg During: http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psisd47wzk.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psar03xaou.jpg After: http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psjotduslr.jpg Also changed my front and rear badges to match the new interior and Rays http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psofvw7nph.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psok8g082y.jpg And tyres finally fitted to the Rays. Went for Hankook Ventus V12's in 255/35/18 http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pszcp5s2ft.jpg Before finally being fitted to the car http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psm4ipyfv8.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps0p4rexzb.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...sylclouws.jpeg Next up was to finish off the interior with some ProSport Digital LED gauges in the Blitz pod http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psd958wlnn.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps066smeb7.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...s5ejlwejr.jpeg And a plaque to make the heated seat switches a bit smarter http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps2e2eqrgv.jpg The next purchase was probably my favourite, some AP Racing 356mm 6 pot discs and calipers that clearly won't fit inside the 17" Work Emotion alloys http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psfmtadwvz.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psmhmj3htu.jpg But a quick test fit behind the 18" Rays and we were in busness...JUST http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...wjl3lkhb-1.jpg Paired with some Impreza 08+ rear Brembo calipers and discs http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pswomeemsr.jpg The front and rear calipers were sent off to be refurbished and painted whilst I had the bells off the front discs anodised as I wasn't a fan of the gold. Calipers were finished in Renault Liquid Yellow which is a pearlescent yellow, one of my favourite colours on a car http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psgchdn8hi.jpg After a few weeks due to being busy at work, front and rears were fitted http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psyrkggcxz.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psw5kkl0e5.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps9q3qdsjt.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psl8b7gc7m.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pskkz1fong.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psy5wtrty6.jpg Complete with braided brake lines and some Motul racing brake fluid, this is by far the best mod I've done. So much more confidence on the track as I can feel what the brakes are doing through the pedal. The deceleration is obviously a huge change and gives you that assurance you can brake late into the corners without any worries over and over without any fade |
A few small exterior mods were next, with a STi front lip, Bottom Line side diffusers and STi rear bumper caps
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps4qrlas85.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psmpfjsn4h.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps4fxsnqr2.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psgi2luowm.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psvuy5elkr.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psgpyd7mnu.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pszi9c8qzt.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pslrutbu5p.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pslbgjfpqq.jpg Really finished the outside of the car off and gives it a more aggressive stance If you're wondering what the stickers all over the car are for, it was part of a UK rally, a bit like the Gumball Rally but on a smaller scale. Driving from London to various major UK cities before finishing in Edinburgh in Scotland, a total of over 1,200 miles I quite liked the look of the stickers so kept them on for a while and got some really good attention and pictures from various shows over the summer http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pskrslu6vt.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psalhrdh7x.jpg But eventually I took them off and left my Tarmac Sportz stickers on which is a sponsor of mine who deals with aftermarket parts across the UK and Europe http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psvbi2zxrl.jpg After deciding that I wanted to do a bit more track time in 2016, I decided to sort out some proper wheels and use the Rays purely for show. This meant a slight colour change which was radical and very unique, but looks awesome http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...sgguixw7m.jpeg And the interior of course had to match http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps0hvbro45.jpg As these were purely for show, I needed to get some daily wheels and some track wheels. With the Works Emotion alloys sold as they don't fit over the brakes anymore, I opted for some WedsSport TC105N's in 18x9.5. The only set in the UK on an 86 and one of very few in the world as far as I can research http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psxmh0iorx.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pswihiwxes.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psf58ziaav.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psnsue4e3w.jpg I loved the look of these wheels and weighing in at just 8kg each (19lbs) they certainly do the job These were then tested out at Rockingham just a few weeks ago and it was incredible how much grip and feedback the car was giving me with the whole setup working well together http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psskbdtonz.jpg With more track days planned, the brakes and suspension all sorted, it was time to get a bit more power from the engine. The Sprintex 210 kit had been great adding around 50% more power over stock, but I wanted more So the logical choice was to upgrade to the Sprintex 335, quite a bit larger than the 210 when compared side by side http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psu4zo5tda.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pscbwaoybp.jpg This meant building the engine as well for complete piece of mine. I know a lot of the 335 users in the States are able to use it on a stock motor with e85 fuel, but we don't have that luxury here in the UK So the engine is currently being built with: HKS 2.1L stroker kit (rods, pistons and crank) HKS cams HKS 1.0mm head gasket and heat grade 9 spark plugs Asnu 500cc injectors Walbro fuel pump Setrab oil cooler And a few other bits as well. We think there may still be some heat issues when it comes to IAT's but this is the first 335 kit in the UK so it's a bit of an experiment really. Car is currently in the garage and should be completed around this time next week (15th September 2015) |
Whilst I wait for the car to be done, I've slowly been losing my mind!! But keeping me sane has been the plans to upgrade the interior ready for the track next year
Racing seats, harnesses, roll cages, harness bars, quick release racing steering wheels are all on the shopping list. Watch this space for regular updates over the next few weeks and months :) |
Looks great! Really like the wheel choice. Where did you find the Gram Lights though? Did you import them or buy them within the UK/EU?

The Weds were imported from the USA and my daily wheels which I haven't got any pictures of yet (JR11's) were imported from Poland Thread is now fully up to date, really can't wait to get the car back from the garage with the complete build finished! |
Love your build man! Very clean and unique. Definitely will continue to follow this thread!
|
good job! keep us posted

Was hoping to have it ready for a big show called JAE (Japanese Auto Extravaganza) this weekend but engine still needs some mapping and running in on the dyno which won't be until early next week now :(
|
What wheel horsepower are you looking to make? Nice blower!

Got a look at the complete engine today before it gets put back into the car
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pslwprnpq7.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psmei33zlf.jpg New IAT sensor drilled into the manifold of the supercharger http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psnldrngdo.jpg And the new Xtreme lightweight HD clutch http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps1ttjoitz.jpg The new charger is absolutely massive! I can't wait to hear it whining away once I finally get her back |
Couple of small purchases keeping me sane until the car comes back
Cusco alternator and pulley covers. Will be going the same colour as the interior and the Rays http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pswogsscqz.jpg And an Arc Titan gear knob. Much more weight then the OEM knob and a bit smaller too http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psorpwbowi.jpg |
