Should I fight this?
4 Attachment(s)
I went to San Francisco to visit my girlfriend (she goes to SFSU) after work 2 days ago. When I was walking to my car to leave I noticed a parking ticket. It said I failed to show a parking permit for lot 19. I was parked along the curb, not in the parking lot. There were signs around and (see image 1) it said nothing about the curb as being part of the lot.
Image 2 shows where the curb is in relevance to the parking structure. Image 3 is a picture of the nearest sign to the curb and it faces people going into the parking lot. (you can see it in image 2 as well) Image 4 is a picture of the 1 and only parking meter for the lot. It's located inside of the lot and is not visible to the curb. I'm planning on fighting this ticket due to the fact of the VERY poor labeling, and I was not parked inside the lot. I was parked along the curb and if they want to designate that the curb is part of the lot then why don't they have the curb painted or say Permit Parking Only anywhere for the curb. They have signs but none of them state that the curb is part of the lot and requires a permit to park there. This was a $73 citation and that is the most expensive one I have ever seen! I have only gotten 1 parking ticket in my life and that was when I was parked outside of the high school I attended and my trailor hitch was in a red zone. It was a $20 citation and I didn't care much to fight it so I paid it off. But I do not want to have to pay $73 to a city and/or the university because their parking spaces are horribly labeled. |
lawyer up adn fight ... print out the pics and youll get the whole thing dismissed on insufficient evidence if your lawyer is worth half his salt. Will cost you around $100 for laywer

Did you already talk to the school and point out that it is very confusing and you had not been there before?
They might cancel the ticket for you |

This. If they continue to behave like asshats about the situation then I'd contest it. |
I am normally a you screw up, get a ticket and take your lumps sortta guy but shit man I would fight that one every step I could. There is no way on earth I would have thought that curb was part of the controlled parking.

most of the times at my school if you contest the ticket they just trash it immediately.
|
Nah fuck that. Fight it, talk to the school and they'll likely dismiss it. There is NO indication AT ALL that the parrallel parking is part of the lot.
|
It's SF, fight anything. I once fought a seagull that stole my Doritos.

always fight always lawyer up blindly paying your ticket is the equivalent of having sex with a hoooker without a condom on .... the government is the hooker do you get it ...bc its so dangerous

If the sign was on the street/curb no matter the position technically they can get you for it. Did you check if the other cars parked on the curb had a permit? You can still fight it though just let them know that it was your first time there and you were unaware of the rules. I'm assuming lot 19 would be that whole area not just the lot. That is confusing though especially when it says "Lot" you automatically think the parking lot. Good luck

I called the school and told them about everything and they said you automatically enter lot19 as soon as you enter the street. How the hell am i supposed to know that?! Im sending in my letter contesting it. Thats total bull.

Fight it. It's as easy as pulling out a damn dictionary...
lot (lŏt) n. a. A piece of land having specific boundaries, especially one constituting a part of a city, town, or block. The boundary is obviously what's inside the curbed in area, not what's outside that. This is typical of schools though, they make a hell of a lot of money off of parking tickets. |
Sent in my contestment letter. Will let you guys know how it goes.
