Automatic headlights constantly on?

Do you guys know if there is a switch to change the setting for headlights if it is set to auto? The weirdest thing happens to my car.

I usually leave the headlights on auto and never worry about it, but this morning when I pull out from the garage the lights did not turn off. After that I drove for about 5 mins they were still on. I tried to restart the car, still doesn't turn off. After fiddling with the switch for a while, it looks like the auto setting is not working at all and the only way to turn the headlights off is to do it manually. Anybody had the same problem before?

Low beam stays on or are you talking about the DRL?

This is new. Does it stay on after you turn off the car? Is the sensor on the dash being blocked or dirty. If not take it to the dealership.

I never use the auto setting because its not good for the lights to flick on in the garage and them go off as soon as you drive out of the garage, day after day, esp if you have HIDs. Can lead to faster bulb failure.

Low beam or high beam depends on which one I put on.

It turns off when I turn it off manually using the switch or push the lock button twice. Sensor being blocked is my first and only logical guess, do you know where exactly is the sensor?

There's a round circle on the passenger side of the dash.

It's in front of the passenger side.

Um I don't think so. Not like there are filaments in there that are heating and cooling. I could be wrong though so if anybody can support BRZ (with some form of documentation please) I am curious. I have always left mine on auto on my previous cars and they all were still perfect after 300,000 miles. Can't find a single official statement on the subject.

I agree with you @Tcoat. Doubtful that it will cause the bulb to fail. HID bulbs produce an electrical arc in the inner glass between the two pieces of metal. If anything the ballast will fail, highly unlikely but possible. OEM HID components go under a lot more quality control practices than aftermarket or knock off companies that produce the same type of HID equipment.

Why do you think they're so many OEM branded fakes being sold on places like Ebay. Unsuspecting customers in the masses and it mostly cheap junk posing like Philips, Osram, Bosch... etc
