But I stumbled across one of favorite anime of all time Ghost Stories (Gakkō no Kaidan).

Now, I'm not denying that is simply hilarious, but is hilarious on how bad it was in term of dub.

I grew up watching anime with a Spanish dub and I've come to appreciate it even more once I got to the U.S and tried to watch the English ones. Then I discovered that nothing beats Japanese dialog, but with English sub.

I do go back from time to time and watch Gundam Wing, Inuyasha, DBZ, Zenki, Saint Seiya, SCC, Runouni Kenshin, etc with Spanish dubs because I feel they match the passion of Japanese voice actors, and is simply fond memories of staying up late or coming home after middle school.

I think it has something to do with cadence. When the animation is in one language, the dub has to be timed to align with what is going on in the animation. It makes for slightly awkward speech patterns where it's hard to convey emotion.

While it could just be that the Spanish dubs are simply better, I also heard (once from a multilingual guy on an airplane) that Japanese is more similar to Romantic languages like Spanish, Italian, and French than it is to Germanic languages like English and German. That might contribute to a less awkward dub.

I think you hit nail right on the spot. I mean, for example. Lets take Dexter's Lab, PPG, or any Nickelodeon cartoon. I also grew up with Spanish dubs, and they were great, came back to the States and watch them in their English dub enjoyed them too. Some insults and arguments do change. Same thing with animated movies like Shrek, Cars, etc. Great voice casting in both languages. I just find it seems like little effort to cast voice actors that can identify with the characters.

The new Spanish dubs for newer anime like AoT, Hunter X, have lost their charm. Mostly due to the fan loved legends have either passed away, or refused to return to work. Now they sound very generic, and almost sounds like they use the same voice actor across all genres between movies and cartoons. Back in my earlier years, I could've sworn that actors like Jim Carrey, Morgan Freeman, etc had their own Spanish voice actors because I never heard them anywhere else.

It's crazy how much anime looks better on my C2 tv. I didn't think it would be any different than watching on my laptop, but it's way smoother and more detailed. I thought it was just the anime at first since I started it on the TV, but nope, when I went back on the laptop, not as smooth and detailed.

I feel you. My buddy have 85" 8K tv with full theater speakers setup, watched one of the Fate series (in 2k), it was awesome! Especially the fighting scene!

I have 65" and able to stream from my pc, so I can watch it on the tv, instead of 24" monitor. It's nice to watch it on bigger nicer tv.

I'm waiting for Samsung to release the Q990B here to add to the C2 (65"). Should make action scenes more lively, and dialogue clearer. The C2 has way better built in speakers than the B7 (got a cheap basic LG soundbar for it since the built in speakers didn't have any low frequency power at all).

Maybe I'll rewatch the Fate series now. LOL

Well, tried signing in on the B7, and the shows portion is unresponsive.

I have begun watching the English dub of Ghost Stories. Where has this been my whole life and why have I not seen it until now!?!?

(I've seen various abridged series of course, but apparently a real studio did this and it's amazing)

Is technically not an official dub, but one of the funniest abridged series I've watched is the Dragon Ball Z Kai (TeamFourStar) videos on YouTube.

But you're right, is G.S is plain savagery. How did they get away with it blows my mind, it is so bad but so good, but so bad again. This is also from around a time when series like Drawn Together were airing too.

Anyone else been watching S2 of Tokyo Revengers? I really enjoyed season 1 but this second season is kind of... not enjoyable. I like some of it but it almost hurts to watch. I'm lowkey disappointed.

Know what surprised the fk outta me?
Co-worker was getting into anime and asked for some suggestions.
Told him go watch NGE as a joke. Then the obvious Boku No Pico to really drive it home.
He already knew about the Boku joke but went and watched NVE and loved it.
[insert gay piano noises]

Yowamushi Pedal - there's two seasons on Netflix, but I looked it up on imdb and there's five seasons now. Latest on Jan 28 this year.

It's a formulaic anime reprise on Initial D but with road bicycling. Good explanations of how the equipment and team dynamics work.

Sorry ... hopeless bike otaku weeb

'Love Princess Pancake' ... SQUEEeee
