Or in Texas. There are plenty of cool tails (the originals really aren't that bad looking), so why? Sorry, spent the day in Texas heat washing and waxing/polishing mine so I'm a little brain-dead right now.

Depends. Pretty sure in Ontario you only need a reflector in the rear. The little triangle MAY serve that purpose.

Edit: according to a quick google, these would be ok, so long as they light up red

I am on the same page as you, just wondering what it would looks like

I am not super in love to, but would be just a small DIY or a fraction of cost to just have the cover clear that will change the look.

This is true but when they do light up they have to be red red not almost red. There are also visabilty requirements that they would have to meet. If there are red LEDs in there you can't tell from the pics. I think you would have a hard time finding Canada legal lights like that (been wrong before though).
As far as just stripping the red lenses out and using the clear housing only goes I am very sure that would be right out of the question.

Well, at least in the state of Washington:

RCW 46.37.050

Tail lamps.

“(1) After January 1, 1964, every motor vehicle, trailer, semitrailer, and pole trailer, and any other vehicle which is being drawn at the end of a combination of vehicles, shall be equipped with at least two tail lamps mounted on the rear, which, when lighted as required in RCW 46.37.020, shall emit a red light plainly visible from a distance of one thousand feet to the rear.”

However, I figure I'd get stopped many times by the LEOs, just to explain/educate them ..... :)

Besides that, I don't want the impaired drivers to get confused on whether I'm coming or going ....... marijuana is now legal in Washington, ya know .....:happyanim:

Ontario law only requires one tail light believe it or not. It must light red and be visible from a distance of (I think) 200 meters. the catch 22 there is that you must have two brake lights (3 if originally equipped) that must be red and visible from a greater distance. Two turn signals that can be red or amber are also required. The only exceptions are vehicles that were manufactured before the requirements came into effect.

Excellent point. they would have to be red, beyond any doubt. Not a reddish amber, not a red hue to a white light, but definitely red.

Back when I first got the car, I hated the stock tails, so I got the JDM buddy clubs. Then the stock lights started growing on me, so I sold the BC's and got the tail as turn module for the stockers. At this point, couldn't be happier.

Although the clear Helix/tribar/depos, whatever name they get sold under, almost have me sold if the dollar wasn't so bad at the moment.

I knocked around a few ideas but actually really like the stock lights on the lava. If I had a white car though I would have went with something that gives more contrast since the stock set up is sort of washed out looking against the light body colour.

Yeah, trying to work up the courage, and then find the time to open up my tails and paint all the chrome bits black, I think I'd be fairly satisfied with that

I baked, opened and painted the head and taillights on all 3 of my Lancers. It was a bit scary the first time but really isn't hard to do. They all came out really nice and I never had any issues.
