2016 Model still rattle on the rear deck ?
So I picked a BRZ (kind premium with keyless entry and heat seat etc) manufactured in Gunma this June,
Since the first day , I noticed a rattle sound from rear, to describe it exactly, It sounds like a old computer mouse clicking, but really a bad quality mouse. It is irrelevant with the speed, under the following circumstances I can hear this rattle. 1.Small bump, 2.More noticieable when bumping the driver's side wheel, so from high to low chance of rattle : driver side front wheel >driver side rear wheel > passenger side rear wheel > passenger side front wheel. 3.It has a high chance to happen when cornering left even without bump Now what I have done by searched from the forum 1. Lithium Grease in the two rear seat latch. 2. An ear sponge in a whole in the trunk. 3. Bent a small aluminium in the trunk, which should linked to a receiver. All these do not resolved the rattles.. It's kind of a needle on the back, which really irks me. I will probably take the car to the dealer next Tuesday but I highly doubt if they know how to resolve this, as what I count this dealer only sell around 3-4 BRZ each month. I'm also surprised after almost 3 years of production, the rattles still existing.. Please help... update: finally yesterday I went to the dealer, they pinpointed the rattle zone is on the roof near the C frame.. The technician did fix with a flat screw .. And the rattle gone, temporarily... And today it still be come to rattle slightly sometimes.. |
I'd suggest you take everything out of the trunk (spare, tools etc.) and check to see if the rattle goes away.
You might check that amp in the trunk, to see it it is secured ..... or not making "mouse sounds". Put the back of the back seat down, to see if that is the source ...... and this may allow you to locate the source of the noise. Silicone spray anything the even looks like it could squeak. humfrz |
The rattle should be from where the 3rd brake light sits. That entire piece of plastic basically sits on metal..

I caulk every wire that I could see from the trunk under the rear lid to keep them from moving/ caulked the stuff around the spare tire/ and the plastic pieces in the pillar where the seat belts attach to (the lower plastic piece moves and made clicking sounds over bumps) , to stop click and pop sounds from the back of the car after I got my 2013.
Nice to see the charm of these cars have been preserved with new model years. Have the crickets come out yet? |
Get a exhaust and you won't here it no mo

I was actually comforted when my 2016 FRS made all the noises that everyone else has had the opportunity to enjoy. I'm still waiting for the crickets to join the party. My wife and I are looking forward to it anxiously.

As everyone knows it does it at idle so it's just something that is normal it seems. If you don't want the crickets it may be time for a new car. :P

I think the noise you describe is more like painted metal rubbing against another painted metal. First think I would do is to try what humfrz mentioned, which is to fold the rear seat down and see if it still makes the noise. If it still makes the noise, the noise most likely is coming from the deck. If the noise becomes louder and clearer and it now sounds more like plastic pet bottles rubbing each other, then it could be coming from under the trunk (Below the trunk cover, above the spare tire, behind the rear seat.) If it stops, then the noise most likely is coming from under the rear seat. So, try that and see what happens. |
I had an annoying rattle/click in my 2013 Toyota 86 (AUS), it as from having the rear seats up with no passengers to the seat belt buckle was knocking against the plastic over small bumps etc. I just plug the seat belts in on the rear seats and no more clicks. Might not be your problem at all but worth a try.
